Anyone own a Ford CMax? Need a bigger car

Hi, I’m thinking of changing cars, I smashed my ankle in January and now I’m really struggling to walk any distance and it is painful using a manual car.

I’ve bought a small scooter that folds down for shopping trips/zoo etc so that the summer won’t be a complete bust. Usually we go camping but I can’t manage that this year. I need a bigger car for the scooter and camping stuff next year.

I’ve seen a Ford CMax (automatic) for sale for £7k it’s 12 years old but has very low mileage. Just wondering how other people have found them for reliability, fuel consumption, tax and insurance costs?

We've had three in the past! They're a solid car, reliable, always had no issues and plenty of space in the boot. Great for us when going on holiday or trips to IKEA needing to fit some huge box into the car!

I particularly rated our Grand C Max which didn't feel massively bigger than a standard one to drive but had loads of space in the boot and sliding doors so no stress about someone parking too close or one of my DDs opening and slamming the door into a wall or another car.

I've a grand c max and love it! The 7 seats are really useful and it's a nice car to drive

Love my Cmax! We’ve got the Grand c Max so great space for the size and doesn’t feel like a big car to drive. Has been ridiculously reliable (v low mileage as well.

Ours is a 1.6 petrol so the only thing I would say is it is a bit underpowered for the size (a bit slow to pull away if you need to).

Thanks for the replies, I will have a look and see if there are any Grand CMax’s in my price bracket. The one I’ve found is a standard CMax.

Currently have a grand cmax, 1.6 diesel, 10 years old. Before that had a cmax, 1.6 diesel too. Both solid, work horse cars. Love the sliding doors in the grand cmax. Great boot in both, very large dog is very comfortable in there and love having the spare two seats when it's my turn to do an away match team run.

Google ecu problems and do some research first as they are well known for this fault but may depend if they actually changed where they put the ecu or not under the front wheel

had to scrap mine as a result of this we lost a fortune on it . It is a known issue so not covered by insurance

Both exh & my dad had the original CMax & loved them, not quite a people carrier but not a small car.

I quite like mine, but don’t love it. The aircon has been problematic since the get go, constantly needing to be regassed and then very underpowered in the short time it theoretically works before needing to be regassed again. It’s also letting water in somewhere non-obvious and the dealership wanted more than £500 just to investigate (fixing the fault found would be extra!).

I don’t dislike it enough to sell it, but probably wouldn’t buy another. But it’s ok. It’s comfy and a fair size, though it could do with more poke on acceleration, like pp said.

We like ours, it's a 2015 hybrid, super reliable, great on fuel, could do with a touch more space for camping gear, but you can't have everything
