What are you eating and what are your kids eating?

If it’s been hot where you are. Or just in general.

I made pasta tonight and it felt like too much effort and no one really ate it. All other meals have been sandwich/fruit/veg/crisps.

Kids barely eating though.

Ate out. Roast Dinner 😳

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/07/2022 20:35

humous, salad and stuff.

RagzRebooted · 17/07/2022 20:36

Jacket potatoes, with bacon, beans, cheese, coleslaw, salad, tuna.
Fruit salad and ice-cream.
Yesterday was chicken nuggets in wraps with salad.
Tomorrow DH is cooking, was going to be sausage casserole but I think it will be too hot for that, though he said he'd do it in the slow cooker. DH said otherwise sausage and chips, but it's up to him if he fancies standing by the fryer in a hot kitchen.
Tuesday may well end up being a picnic somewhere after work. I bought a load of picnic bits, in case we need to decamp to woods/seaside for some respite.

DCs usually only have 2 meals at weekends anyway and don't snack much, but I've been plying them with crisps for the salt and ice lollies and fruit for fluids/cooling.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/07/2022 20:36

Greek salad, grilled chicken, steak and beltways is what we had last night, DS finished the salad tonight after he finished work

chipshopElvis · 17/07/2022 20:38

We had late breakfast then bbq tea with lots of salady stuff and ice cream. Will just eat salad and ice cream for the next couple of days!

Svara · 17/07/2022 20:39

Hot food as usual. Bought ice lollies but that's it. Bolognese in the fridge for the next two days so I only need to cook pasta.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 17/07/2022 20:46

Lots of fruit available all day, and little picky bits in the fridge if we can't manage a whole meal. Had an easy salad tonight with some chicken and croutons. Got a quiche and some cheese and crackers for tomorrow night. DD is having some yoghurt and granola now before bed

BoJoGoGoGo · 17/07/2022 20:54

Stew because it needed eating.

PlainJaneSuperbrainthe2nd · 17/07/2022 20:56

We had a BBQ today and cooked extra chicken and sausage which we will eat tomorrow and Tuesday. Fruit and Icecream. Salad. There will be no cooking other than heating in microwave! only carbs I will contemplate are bread and couscous

NiqueNique · 17/07/2022 20:57

Today we had lamb shish kebabs along with courgette, tomato and red onion kebabs, which I cooked on the grill (it’s not that hot here today, about 23. Wholemeal tortilla wraps. Tzatziki, sliced chillies and lettuce to add, plus olives on the side. My children are grown up now but when they were little they would have had the same thing. It’s nice because you can have as much or as little as you like.

I’ve prepared foods yesterday and today so that I can avoid having to cook for the next few days at least - cooked a ham for sandwiches, roasted a chicken (we ate half on the night and the other half will be used for a Caesar salad on Tuesday, scraps will go into a soup), made empanadas which we’ll have with a few fresh veg sides and maybe also some tortilla chips/dip. I also have burger buns so we can have hamburgers if we fancy it.

We’re keeping portions fairly small as appetite does tend to decrease in the heat.

I realised today that I’ve really missed a trick - we’ve got no ice creams at all! But I’ve got ingredients for strawberry milkshake and mango/coconut milkshake.

SaltandPepper22 · 17/07/2022 20:57

Last two days I have put something in the slow cooker so I don’t have to stand over a hot hob or heat up the kitchen with the oven . Tomorrow and Tuesday when it is really hot I have ordered lots of picky bits (hummus, pitta, olives, cured meets, cooked chicken, crisps, pork pies, mini snack eggs, watermelon and grapes). Quite looking forward to it as a different kind of dinner actually 😋

NiqueNique · 17/07/2022 20:58

Dropped one of my parentheses there! Angry

SusanSHelit · 17/07/2022 21:02

Nachos with beef chilli and salsa done in the microwave with refried beans. Took us a whole film to pick at them and even then ended up leaving half.

We're in a new build and it's hotter than Satan's bollocks

Perfectlystill · 17/07/2022 21:03

For lunch today I did roast chicken, green beans, roasted pepper salad with capers and almonds, and a sourdough loaf (£1.29 from Lidl! Bargain!) with nice butter.

For lunch we're having salads and ice lollies.

I froze some beef stock in an ice cube tray today for my dog.

TheGetaway · 17/07/2022 21:08

Kids had a microwave meal or a sandwich

DH made a stir fry for him and myself

underneaththeash · 17/07/2022 21:09

We have mini-roast. Chicken roasted over leeks and carrots with broad beans and peas from the garden.
and smashed new potatoes.

onmywayamarillo · 17/07/2022 21:16

I made so much Korean food last week... all lovely side dishes that can be in fridge and waiting.
Jasmine rice
Dumpling fried and steamed
Side dishes

Refreshing
Light yum!

MrsDThomas · 17/07/2022 21:41

kids wanted a bbq. So that’s what we had. I hate bbqs. 2nd one this week and im already bored. Had one burger🤢

i dont eat huge amounts anyway, but i eat less in the warm weather. Not hungry and i tend only to eat when i am hungry.

anyway, too windy to have the parasol up so we went indoors.

NiqueNique · 17/07/2022 21:48

Oh I love Korean food! Might make some this week.

HeyMicky · 17/07/2022 21:50

We would have to move to the sun before the DDs didn't eat.

Tonight we had BBQ lamb with flatbreads and salad. They had sandwiches for lunch and crudités; many ice lollies. Overnight oats for breakfast.

reluctantbrit · 17/07/2022 21:53

Lamb kebabs with rice and roasted peppers was tonight's dinner.

Tomorrow it will be a sandwich with cold cuts for lunch and fajitas for dinner.
Tuesday will be sandwich again and halloumi burger for dinner.

Fan247 · 17/07/2022 21:54

We have had normal food for dinner - meat, veg and potatoes and lots of cold drinks and ice lollies throughout the day to keep cool.
The kids are ok with anything as long as they have ice lollies and cold drinks to keep them cool.
