Help me find a slow cooker?

Galileu · 17/07/2022 18:57

I need a slow cooker that has either a stainless steel, unlined insert or an unlined ceramic/stoneware one.

HAS to be completely unlined. Food sticking not a problem.

Ideally, if it's stainless steel, it will be one of the sear then cook ones.

Not too bothered about the price, but would prefer not to spend over £100 if possible.

Thank you!

If you search on FB there are lots of groups.
Try 'Slow Cooker Wonders' - people often ask for advice o what slow cooker to buy

I bought an instant pot with slow cooking function. It was the only one I could find with an uncoated stainless steel insert. I love it. It sautés too and I really love the pressure cooker function too. The only problem is that it is more expensive than a normal slow cooker.

I've got my eye on a Russell Hobbs Good To Go multicooker, 5.7 litre & sears, slow cooks etc, at £70 it is cheaper than a lot of the other cookers.

What do you mean by 'unlined'

Our slow cooker has a ceramic bowl, the surface is the same as crockery. Is that lined or unlined?

I would have thought you'd have loads of choice, slow cookers don't cost anywhere near £100 do they? It was a few years ago but the one I bought was £7 from Asda.

I would go somewhere like Curry's or John Lewis to have a look at the display or look somewhere like ao.com that has really good pictures to find what I wanted.

Good luck.

I think that quite a lot of ceramic slow cookers were found to leach lead into the food. I think that uncoated stainless steel is supposed to the best option for long, slow cooking.

Briliant - thanks so much all. I can't believe that I'd forgotten about the Instant Pot. I've seen MN threads over the years about how good they are.

Yes, I'd read about the lead issue with ceramic bowls. I'm definitely favouring unlined stainless steel, and I'm pretty close to getting the Instant Pot I think.

Do I need the Air Fryer version? One of the newer models? Are they all pretty much the same?

I don't fry much, but would I if I had an Air Fryer??

Thanks again.

I'm not sure what you mean by unlined.

I have an instant pot, which has a slow cooker, and saute function. So you can start off something on the saute function then pressure cook or slow cook.

It's my upgrade from the Morphy Richards sear and stew slow cooker. It's looks like it's about £30 on amazon at the moment. Pot was able to go on the hob, then into the slow cooker. Needs to be held with a mitt or something but fine for a five minute brown off.
