Funeral attire

Sadly, I’m going to a friend’s funeral tomorrow. The dress code is football shirts. I’ve managed to borrow a football shirt so I’m fine on my top half. I had been planning to wear smart black trousers with it but I’m not sure that they will be a wise choice given the heat forecast for tomorrow. Would a pair of smart grey tailored shorts be acceptable?

We’re on the fringes of the red heat warning area and the church is likely to be packed. Plus it’s a burial so I’ll be outside afterwards and it’s during the hottest part of the day. The last thing I want to do is make an exhibition of myself by fainting. I don’t own any suitable skirts.

Shorts of any kind be absolutely fine given the choice of top.
Hope it goes well

Hi OP, I'm a funeral arranger and were dreading the next couple of days as our team still have to wear ceremonial uniforms in the heat.

I would think smart tailored shorts would be ok. If there is a football shirt theme then it's a more casual affair anyway, and people will be grateful you've honoured the theme and turned up in a shirt.

Make sure you take a bottle of water with you and drink lots, and something to fan yourself with if possible.

I agree.

I know of two people who are attending funerals and they've been told to dress for the heat and NOT to wear black.

I hope it goes well.

Not being facetious but can you wear some football shorts ?

Watto1 · 17/07/2022 17:32

Thank you all, I think I’ll go with the shorts.
