Does keeping the actual windows shut help?

I always keep the blinds / shutters / curtains closed but I've never quite managed to keep the actual windows closed too (I open them early or have them all open a crack or even have them wide open behind the shutters)

If it genuinely works I will do it properly tomorrow 😓

Opened up half an hour ago as I just couldn't bear the feeling of being in a dark stuffy space any more. It's still very warm but there's been a bit of rain and a breeze so feels fresher.

Definitely going to remember this though. Amazed to think how many normal hot days I've sweated through when I'd have been better off doing this.

Yesterday I kept everything closed until I went to bed at about 11pm. I left every window wide open and woke at 2am and to a nice through breeze.

Shut everything back up about 8am today and have just opened up now as inside and outside temperatures are very similar but there is a strong breeze and I want some air.

Definitely recommend the windows / blinds shut for hot days going forwards.

I’ve opened my windows too early this evening and am now stuck with the dilemma of closing them again or sticking with it…

Took me ages to get it right this morning.

Started with windows and curtains shut but it felt really uncomfortable.

I've now got one set of windows and curtains shut and the other wide open - it's catching a nice breeze!

I guess this is just a trial and error process.

There’s a breeze today so all the windows and the back door are open, there’s a gentle breeze blowing through the house. It’s lovely.

Yesterday we had all windows closed. It was burning hot in the house but still 10 degrees cooler inside than outside.

Today all windows are open to allow a cross breeze

I also opened too early and felt the hottest I have over the past few days.

I can honestly say Ive never ever felt so comfortable in my house during any hot spell as I have the last two days..... which is incredible.

I don't know how we would have got through it! It's an incredible trick and not expensive.
Having said that i will be investing in some thermal white fabric for next time.sheets worked well and the window frame remained cool.

On the day before the two day 🌊, we did have shaded windows open and that worked but even in the shade on the hottest day it was too hot so we kept them all closed.

Just in case this helps anyone. I bought the £4 cut to size stick on blinds from Ikea (schottis) to help with glare. I sit right by a south facing window when I WFH.

The difference in temperature has been immediate too. Much cooler.

I bought white - there's also grey.
