Vintage homeware 'do you remember' question for long term mumsneters

I keep trying to remember the website/ brand of a family run vintage antique home ware site.

There were frequent threads here a few years ago where people would post links to the most outrageously priced 'pieces' like bit of old rope for £300.

It was slightly bodenesque in its styling.
I just fancied looking at the old threads, they were funny (maybe would be too mean for these times).

Cannot remember the shop name though! Any ideas?

Oh it’s on the tip of my tongue! I keep thinking Whistlers, but obviously not. Things like a battered old school desk for £3k?

darisdet · 17/07/2022 12:43

Pedlars?

NoSquirrels · 17/07/2022 12:44

Was it Pedlars?

Yes, Pedlars. I remember a £500 squirrel lamp! They had so much random tat. They don’t seem to be still in business, can’t find a website.

Fluxcapacitator · 17/07/2022 12:47

Almost like pedlars, but more real rubbish - exactly like a 3k school desk (maybe pedlars from 5/10 years ago...)

Unless this is it.

www.theshopkeepers.com/pedlars/ but previously they didn’t have a shop and the website was called pedlars. Similar shit with a similar up their arse arty backstory.

QuebecBagnet · 17/07/2022 12:49

It was pedlars which had an old French shop sign for 3k.

Fluxcapacitator · 17/07/2022 12:49

Yes sorry was pedlars thank you! Have found the thread from 2010, very funny!

article about pedlars, it looks like that shop is the same couple.

QuebecBagnet · 17/07/2022 12:53

Found a photo of the lamp.

Oh the lamp was £2400 not £500,,

EduCated · 17/07/2022 12:54

Pedlars! Of course! Exactly what I need today.

This is like that "we saw you coming" skit that Harry Enfield used to do...

darisdet · 17/07/2022 12:55

I thought they were now the Henderson Shop as that has similar vibes. Completely wrong as it's not them, having checked (they do follow PedlarsWorld though).

They're Pedlars World on social media. I think they're still selling.

PedlarsSpanner · 17/07/2022 12:56

hee hee hee

darisdet · 17/07/2022 12:57

The threads were great. It was like the 'We Saw you Coming' shop. They'd manage to market old tat as desirable and sell it for ridiculous prices.

£2400 for the squirrel lamp Shock

they have an estate in Wales and another in Scotland. I assume they were born into money? He doesn’t seem to have worked an actual job in his life?

QuebecBagnet · 17/07/2022 13:00

They sold old spanner’s for £350. 😂. Well, not sure if they ever actually sold any.

Yes! *interwebs high fives!

We always say this when we see shops full of poncy tat, and having just had a short break in the Cotswolds, well.... there were loads of 'em 😂

onemouseplace · 17/07/2022 13:05

I once bought something from Pedlars - some espresso cups that were actually really nice (and disappointingly normally priced).

His grandfather or great grandfather, not sure which, was prime minister William Gladstone

TheFallenMadonna · 17/07/2022 13:09

It was a huge spanner though. I remember being almost tempted for DH. I mean, not really, but...
