Anyone know how to treat a scab like this? - minimise scarring?

I made a big mistake two days ago when trying to remove milia myself. I used a sterilised needle and they bled a bit but I didn’t go very deep. It was more a scrape kind of thing, the wrong technique I think. The milia had been there for months and exfoliating wasn’t working so thought I’d try something else.

i woke up yesterday and have been left with two big scabs. They don’t hurt and aren’t sore today but are very prominent on my face and I’m worried they could scar and be permanent. They’re dry and just a typical scab texture…. Is there anything you would recommend I do? And If anything like this has happened to you how long does it generally take to lessen in appearance?

My DD does that kind of damage to her face when she picks a stubborn spot. I can't really tell from the photo, but it looks like a shallow scab which will just peel off really easily after a few days. She has never been left with a scar.

Should be fine. I'd keep it moist with antiseptic cream, if I was going to fuss at all.

Thank you that’s very reassuring to hear, I have had lots of bruises on my face through playing sports but never a scab sort of thing like this so didn’t know what to expect…I’ll just let it heal naturally and be patient

Next time you need to soften the milia with a warm wash cloth for at least 5 mins and just nick the top of and squeeze GENTLY with fingers covered with tissue. Won't leave a mark at all done properly.

Thank you I think I rushed the soft cloth method. Next time if I ever get them I’ll use one on them for days before to soften them and be a lot more gentle! I should have used a lancet or something smaller made specifically for skin issues too

Lansinoh - purified lanolin - directly on the scabs will help with moist healing.

Looks like it might have developed in to impetigo by the yellow crust. Go to your pharmacy and they'll assess and give you anti biotic cream if needed.

Ah I think the pictures and light effect may be slightly misleading, I can’t see any yellow in person but more the sort of red when I’ve got scabs like this on my knee or arm before, just never on my face. I will still go to the doctor tomorrow or a walk in centre just to make sure it’s not infected.

Hey, i just did the same to myself yesterday lol. Picked on a milia and kept trying to pop it over and over which basically damaged the surrounding thin skin, just like yours. And now of course, there is this big wound like thingy. I am so worried about a permanent scar or even a temporary dark scar. Did yours heal well? Did it leave a scar? Also how long did it take to heal completely and what did you do to take care of it? I am confused about whether to leave it dry or put a band aid on it.

I did the same to my skin
And it's quite red now and it left a red scab
How long did your scab took to heal ?
And did it leave any scar ?

Whatever you do, make sure you wear good sun protection. Wounds scar more if they are exposed to uv rays.
