Cheaper alternative to an AirTag to track luggage

We are finally going away in 2 weeks - the holiday which was supposed to happen in May 2020 and has been postponed 4 times!

My parents who live overseas visited us earlier in the year and the airline lost two of their cases. They had AirTags in them and they were able to tell the airline/airport where they were and got them delivered really quickly.

with all the airport chaos going on I’m tempted to do the same but AirTags are the best part of £30 each.

tilemates look good but the batteries are non-replaceable.

are there any cheaper alternatives?

I’d like to know this as well!

Me too!

If you need a few to you can get a pack of 4 for £99, brings the price per tag down a little. We keep thinking of buying but havent got around to yet, as usual with apple they are rarely reduced.

We bought four for £80. One for each suitcase. We figured they work, and if we had a lost suitcase , then £20 for quickly finding it is not a bad price. We are also going to use them with wristbands for the kids on their way to and from
school

You can get Tiles with replaceable batteries but the price does go up but I'm not sure on their range.

I got a pack from EE and paid in instalments with my phone bill. Is that or
something similar an option? It is just a one off payment unlike Tile.

DH got Tile a few years ago but has to pay a subscription. The batteries come free with it though.

I don't have an iPhone so wondered about this www.tmlt.co.uk/product/single-trace-me-tag/ and sharing the cost with family. I know it's not a one off cost but at 4 for £24 for a year I didn't think the subscription was too bad. We have at least 3 family groups that go abroad most years so it would be quite a small amount to pay really.

Thanks.

we are going as a family of 6 with DP’s. So we’re going to get 2 tags, put one in one of their cases
(whilst mixing clothes between cases) and one in ours (mixing contents again).
that way it feels like a roulette but better than nothing.
if not worth it will sell them when we get back!
