Senior school backpack

Can you recommend a senior school backpack for a 13 year old boy please? Needs to be able to hold and protect a laptop as well as the usual ridiculous amount of books and folders he's got to carry around. We had one from Nike I think but the bottom has pretty much given in so looking for something more durable and acceptable to teenagers.

My son had a Carhartt one which wasn't cheap but was really durable and fit the laptop.

Have you asked your ds which one he’d like? Which brand is acceptable? I know it can vary from area! That’s where I’d start then look at sizes.

He hasn't started at the school yet so has no idea. We're moving so it's in a different area.

Thank you. That looks like a good option.

Any black one from Sports Direct. Go for Under Armour/Nike/Adidas - if you want him to fit in and not stand out.

If it's a new school just check they don't have an official one. Many of the schools round here you can only use one from the school suppliers.

Look at Vans for a backpack - a lot of their skate style ones have loads of space and are pretty heavy duty, with padding so the laptop should be protected 🙂
(Unless I'm mega out of touch with the youth and Vans is no longer "fashionable"!)

Jansport backpacks are pretty much indestructible. Lots of the high school kids around here have them in various colours/patterns.

Just make sure it has some distinguishing mark if it's a plain-ish bag! Tie or clip something to it so it can be found amongst dozens of identical ones.

Highly recommend the bigger/sturdier bags from decathlon. They seem indestructible!

DS2 (14) has an Under Armour one.

All three of my kids got a Jansport big student backpack. Both boys used the same black bags I bought them for high school all the way through college. Dd has one now in multicolours she got it in year 7 and she's year 13 in September and it still looks great. Dh has sent it through the washing machine a couple of times and he vacuums it out in the summer as its full of crumbs.

Great tip re Jansport - looked that up. Thank you.

Wouldlovetobeinthesun · 17/07/2022 11:22

Thanks everyone. Have gone for a Jansport one!

Vans are great. My son had a vansXToyStory one in reception and has used it every school day since… he’s just about to finish year 6! If it didn’t have buzz light year on it he would use it for comp! I wish he would as it’s quite a subtle print and think it’s lush!
