This is my go to meal after a long travelling day and I find a nice New Zealand Sauvignon goes well with most dishes 👍🏼

I've think something full bodied. But I know naff all about wine so can't actually recommend one!

This is an important question. In summer it might go nicely with a light red that can be served cold.

I had half a bottle of cold white Viognier in the fridge, it DID NOT ago well
with it. But went well with the stir fry the night before.

Definitely a Cabernet Sauvignon, but I would wait for a few days, no cooking today or tomorrow - unless a juicy medium rare steak on the BBQ just as the sun goes down? Which, coincidentally the Cabernet will also go well with.

If you decide on a salad - they really don't have to be boring these days - a Rosé d'anjou should go well, as long as it is well chilled, but not frozen! Or a light sparkling white wine, but not Champagne (unless you are very rich and know your Champagnes really well!), and not a German wine, or a cheap Italian, at least not with most salads.

NB. I am sure that you know that baked beans, on a quality artisan wholemeal toast, makes a brilliant, most bases covered, nutritious meal @Vanillazebra.

However, what many mumsnetters might not know, is that Waitrose's own brand baked beans are far tastier than Heinz, and other leading brands of baked beans. I resisted trying them at first, as baked beans, tomato sauce, and salad cream always had to be Heinz - I know, I am a pleb, but I love salad cream, as well as a quality homemade salad dressing (but obviously not together)!

Ooh I’ll give the Waitrose beans a try! I live in Canada so a 4 pack of beans is generally $10 on sale, so they are a treat!

This thread has made my day as I have oft wondered what drink should go with my beans. I too live in a baked bean-less place and as such they are an unusual treat.

I may try and get a Viognier tonight and use my last can!!

beans on toast is definitely a red wine meal, which usually means Malbec for me.

However, jacket spud and beans is definitely a white wine meal for me. I don’t know why jacket spud vs toast changes the colour of the appropriate wine when the main element of the meal is the beans (and cheese), but it definitely does.

Also, full English for dinner is served with beer in winter and cider in summer.
