Open Blister

I went out the night before last wearing shoes that rubbed my foot and caused a massive open blister. I kept it clean and covered it with a plaster, which I have changed each time I have a shower. Tonight it seems to have gone really really painful and my foot is slightly swollen and it hurts to walk. Really worried about it going septic. Do I need to get medical help or just leave it to heal. Don’t mean to sound like a drama queen but really worried about it going septic. Photo attached.

It looks fine to me. It'll be painful so maybe cover it with a compeed plaster.

I really wouldn't seek medical attention for this and I'd also not give a second thought to it turning septic.

I don't wish to be rude but do you have health anxiety?

dementedpixie · 16/07/2022 23:17

Use a blister plaster and leave it on

MarthanotMarfa · 16/07/2022 23:18

It will hurt but it looks fine. However you must give it air as much as possible when you don’t have to wear shoes. Soak in a salt bath then leave to the air/soak and air. Leave your foot out of the covers at night. It will quickly improve. They are extremely painful. You should not have heat or redness that spreads from the area.

Soak your foot in some water with a drop of either TCP or surgical spirit in it. It will sting, but grit your teeth. Once clean and dry, put a Compeed plaster on.

Rainbowshit · 16/07/2022 23:21

It looks fine. Put a comped plaster on it. It's most important that you let the plaster fall off rather then pull it off as pulling it off will just rip off the new skin.

Medical help? Are you normally so anxious?

I would just leave it alone.

Lindy2 · 16/07/2022 23:35

I'd put a good coating of germaline on it and cover it with a plaster.

It will take a few days to feel less sore as it looks quite big.

Thanks all. Yes, I suffer really badly from health anxiety and am generally anxious. However I have had blisters from various shoes before and never worried about them before but this one seems more painful than ones I’ve had before and surrounding area, slightly swollen? Just concerned as I read an article about a blister leading to septicaemia (Gemma Downing). If I hadn’t have read that I would just leave it to heal by itself and not worry.

Stop reading stuff online about blisters and forget about it

The health anxiety mind wants to seek out reassurance but it ultimately won't reassure you. Just repeat to yourself that it's only a blister

Isaidnoalready · 16/07/2022 23:48

Blister plaster and leave it alone all the changing will have aggravated it

Rainbowshit · 17/07/2022 09:40

Blisters are always sorer the next day I find particularly open ones like that. It doesn't look on any way infected.

Ceriane · 17/07/2022 10:35

Thank you. I left the plasters off last night and will continue to let the air get to it, apart from when I leave the house. It’s starting to heal.
