Is this a new trend?

Am sat outside waiting for my sons lesson to finish.

A group of (very polite) teenagers walk past. All the girls dressed for summer weather.

3 of the 4 lads had shorts, no tops on - but what caught my eye was that they were all wearing black balaclava type things. Is this a new thing? Are they supposed to be cooling or something?

That’s odd. Were you sitting outside a bank? 😉

JustJeans · 16/07/2022 15:55

Teenagers can be very strange. I know because I was one and I have two.

Zoeslatesttrope · 16/07/2022 15:59

Do

Zoeslatesttrope · 16/07/2022 15:59

Do you mean buffs?

TrianglePlayer · 16/07/2022 16:10

Was it their tops wrapped round their heads?

Winterfellismyhome · 16/07/2022 16:12

Its a thing to try and look hard

KickboxingWanker · 16/07/2022 16:33

No 🤣 there no banks left in the town

Had to Google buffs lol. No these were close fitting head & face covering
s with one large slit for eyes.. mouth and nose covered.

No, they were plain black close fitting balaclava things - I suppose it looked even more strange with no tops on!

Like this OP?

I couldn't imagine wearing one in this heat!

Is this a new trend?
Lalosalamanca · 16/07/2022 16:49

Bless em lol they are trying to look hard/cool

Honaloulou · 16/07/2022 17:01

It's a thing near me. I think it's either 'I'm in a gang' or 'I want to look like I'm in a gang'.

takeitandleaveit · 16/07/2022 17:04

Will teenage boys never tire of finding ways to make themselves look like a pillock?

BusySittingDown · 16/07/2022 17:07

I've never seen any round our way locally but we were in Manchester in the Arndale centre and there were loads of teenage lads in them. They weren't doing any harm but I found it so intimidating. I didn't like it.

Itsthelookitsthelook · 16/07/2022 17:10

I've seen a few teens like that, but never without tops on, they sound ridiculous!

BusySittingDown · 16/07/2022 17:17

Oh btw the teens in the Arndale did have their tops on 😂. It was a few weeks ago and pissing down with rain.

Fuckitydoodah · 16/07/2022 17:22

Christ, they are bloody awful. I'd also feel pretty intimidated if a group of guys were coming towards me wearing those.

JustJeans · 16/07/2022 17:56

I suppose it's one way to hide the pimples and bumfluff.

TheLeadbetterLife · 16/07/2022 18:01

Wow times really have moved on. No-one would have been allowed to wear a balaclava in the Arndale centre when I was a teen in the 90s…

prettyteapotsplease · 16/07/2022 18:06

Ah, but takeitandleaveit we should be broad-minded of course, every generation when young should be allowed to dress in any way that they see fit so that they can look like pillocks.

Minimalme · 16/07/2022 18:54

I predict this will be a short-lived trend.

Literally short-lived in this heat. So young too...tragic.

AllFreeOwls · 16/07/2022 18:56

This trend seems to be gaining traction in my area, although I suspect it may pause shortly due to the heat.

InconvenientPeg · 16/07/2022 19:03

I've noticed kids wearing these a few times over the past few weeks, I think they're things you can wear under a motor bike helmet? So guessing that's where the cool comes from. It looks SO odd tho, especially with the weather right now!

Nope, never. There will always be ways.
