Meat slicer any one? Now £65.99, Save £3!

I have just been browsing Amazon's kitchen range and for the grand total of £66 (and a saving of £3!) I can have a meat slicer. I can't ever recall meat being cooked at home for cold cuts but there must be a market for it otherwise surely it wouldn't sell. I appreciate you can cut other things with it but honestly I can't ever imagine it being used and it will simply take up space (waffle maker I'm thinking about you!).

I'm bored, tired and it's Friday night. Does any one need a meat slicer?

I kind of want one now - always fancied a go on the o Ed at the deli. That "swooshing " noise!

HappyAsASandboy · 15/07/2022 21:53

Can you post a link to it?!

OP did you post this just so we’d all laugh at its ‘various thickness knob’?

100% am in the market for one of these! We have 2 ham-crazy daughters and now a baby son who, as far as his weaning is going so far, might be worth getting a few times in now ahead of his teen years!!!
Hate all the plastic waste (and expense) of packet ham but can't slice a gammon finely enough.
Admittedly my problems are veering ever so slightly towards the 'first world' variety!

WineIsMyCarb · 15/07/2022 22:00

Do you think I could buy a deli ticketing machine for the children to use when they queue up too?

Chelsea26 · 15/07/2022 22:07

Big queue at the butchers
one of the locals says “what’s going on mate?”
“sorry chaps, I had to sack my assistant, he was sticking his dick in the bacon slicer out back!”
”what happened to the bacon slicer?”
”i fired her as well!”

MugginsOverEre · 15/07/2022 22:27

I'm terrified of those things. Irrational? Perhaps. But once you slice a hand on a mandolin and refuse to touch one again, a meat slicer is easily a no no forevermore too.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 15/07/2022 22:32

( sniggers) @Chelsea26

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/07/2022 22:37

That's given me flashbacks to having to take one of those to pieces when I worked in a deli in my a level years. I was always worried I'd take a finger off just cleaning the thing.

Isaidnoalready · 15/07/2022 22:37

I had the same thoughts about a s

Isaidnoalready · 15/07/2022 22:38

A spiraliser I swapped it on the exchange site for a multipack of crisps

ShriekingShack · 15/07/2022 22:41

Yeah I’ve got a meat slicer. We call it a knife in my house.

ShaunaTheSheep · 15/07/2022 22:46

We once viewed a house with its original 1960's top of the range kitchen...with built in meat slicer than swum up and out from the base cupboard. I was tempted for a moment.

ShaunaTheSheep · 15/07/2022 22:46

Swung not swum obviously

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 15/07/2022 22:52

We buy a gammon joint and cook it for cold meat!! Not every week, maybe every 3 weeks, its so much nicer than packet ham and massively cheaper.

I just use a good knife and cut it when its cold though, can't be bothered with a proper meat slicer!

Did you post the Amazon link as an affiliate OP or does MN do it automatically?

TeaAndStrumpets · 15/07/2022 22:59

We've got a manual one where you turn a handle. I was a bit worried about the sharp blades and bought some metal mesh gloves but tbf DH never uses them and still has all his digits!

I get large gammon joints, to slice when really cold. You do get an amazing quantity and I bag in small portions then freeze. I also slice leftover lamb (boned rolled joint) which is actually very tasty.

BodenseeBoden · 15/07/2022 23:03

These are quite common in Germany, and I’d love to have one if we had the space. Though they’re only used to slice bread (makes it stay fresh for longer). A bit strange that they’re called meat slicers here though, I’ve never seen anyone use them for meat…

It's not done by mumsnet. If it's an affiliate link the poster has done it. Cookies last quite a while...

Actually mumsnet does turn your links into affiliate ones- we noticed on the Christmas bargain thread a year or so ago and some mnhq bod came and confirmed it. Not the fault of the poster in in this instance :)

Dogappreciationsociety · 15/07/2022 23:30

Ooh i have one.

Its revolutionised the way i buy meat.. i buy big joints of beef now and slice for sandwiches and throw in freezer where they sit until 2.5 years later i find them and the freezer burn walks itself out to the dustbin.

Its also a fucking arse to clean.

user1471504747 · 15/07/2022 23:44

Ooh very sneaky of MNHQ!! Although I’m sure it’s written in the fine print somewhere.

Sorry to derail OP I’m sure you’re not an Amazon meat slicer sales woman Grin
