Paddling pool maintenance

Looking for advice from paddling pool experts! Ive bought a 10ft paddling pool for the dc. It's an inflatable one from The Range and comes with its own pump. Can anyone please advise me on how to keep it clean with chlorine tablets and algecide treatments? As in, step by step instructions and hopefully amazon links to what products I need! 😝 I've been researching online but the sheer amount of info is overwhelming and I'm even more confused than when I started.

Whe you say pump is one that has has a filter in?

ours is a bit smaller but we clean the filter every day (just needs a hose down) and have a floaty thing with a chlorine tablet in. That seems to do the job but if the kids and their friend have used it a lot DH doses a bit more chlorine in in and we dipstick it before they go in agin to make sure the ph is ok.

Yes I meant filter not pump! 🤦‍♀️

Don't know the answer to this but have just read elsewhere about covering the water with black plastic - or black bin bags overnight. The water will warm up quickly in the sun then and there will be no need for kettles of hot water.

Buy chlorine tablets and a float from amazon.

Clearwater start package plus clarifier. You will need to test for chlorine and pH level EVERY DAY. And probably add chlorine every day too. Aim to change filter weekly. It's a pain.

Following, as I have just bought a floating chlorine device. Do you add it as soon as the water is in or after the kids have been in?

I can confirm it works! On really hot days I'll cover it over in the morning to use in the afternoon and sometimes have to put a bit of cold water in because it's heated up that much. It also keeps all the flies/leaves etc. out of the water.

When you say black bags are they literally on the water or over the top of the pool?

Heistonabike · 15/07/2022 22:30

@Angelik this one? Howuch do you use for a small paddling pool?

Also I didn't get a pool cover and they seem to be sold out everywhere. Will a dust sheet from B&Q do the trick?

@Heistonabike that's it. I've got a 10ft and we've been using it for past 2 weeks. We've been used a massive plastic sheet as a cover- the "proper" ones are drawstring and never seem to stay tied so we use these. Be mindful of how much water in your pool as you'll have to work out the chemical dosages accordingly. Enjoy it!

I get two black sacks, rip down the sides and just float on top of the water. T

Well it's not going great! 😕

My garden appears to be more sloped than I realised.

I've filled a huge paddling pool I bought when DC had just outgrown them. It's been in the shed 10 years. DH and I are playing in it Grin
I'll try the bin bags tonight!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/07/2022 17:49

Flat ground definitely helps!
We have the cover which is on when there’ll no one in it, DS wouldn’t let me take a photo with him in it so here it is without!
