Firestick hell!

Being driven up the wall by this bloody firestick- can someone please help?

I had to buy a replacement amazon remote for my firestick, I paired it successfully.

But it doesn't work.

I've tried repairing it, resetting it, I've plugged and unplugged, I've tried different hdmi slots. I've counted 60 seconds, 12 seconds, 5 seconds, 60 seconds while in various different states of unugged-ness.

I've plugged and unplugged the TV too.

Now here's the kicker...

The firestick is connected. I know this because I can tell the Alexa button to play music and can ask it questions and it does it.

I know the tv is working (screen aside) because it responds to it's remote.

Additionally, when I decided to try again earlier this week (its not a new issue, I've been distracted and patient) - it worked! Perfectly, first time. Hallelujah.

For about 3 minutes. Then the screen disappeared.

The tv screen is turning on, I can tell between it does from off and black to less-black when switched on.

I don't actually think the tv (Samsung) is the problem, I think the problem is the firestick because the firestick is the only variable that's changed.

Having said that, however, when I press any button on the Samsung TV remote nothing comes on screen, not menu, nada.

I'm turning to you lot because I'm avoiding having to go through amazon customer services and hope you might be able to work some wizardry for me.

So you just have a blank screen? My fire stick remote stopped working but I downloaded the remote to my iPhone (for free) and it works perfectly well.

Yup just a blank screen. My phone doesn't have infrared so can't be used as a remote :(

You can download it to a kindle or tablet too if you have one of those... It could possibly be the wire to the fire stick that is faulty, I had to replace mine some months ago (it's just a bog standard android wire).

I've tried 2 other different wires too :(

The app works over the WiFi I think, not infra-red.

Is the TV tuned to the right Input (HDMI)?

You can connect your phone to the remote via the app, it doesn't need to be via infrared.
But I find when I i turn my tv on I have to press on the down direction on my firestick remote (on the round circle) for the firestick screen to come on.

I had a similar issue and if you can get into settings on the firestick and remove the linked remotes then re pair it may work, sorted it for me.

@Optimist1 yes I've been through the different source options and only get sound through one (no picture on any).

Hi, I've had similar issues with my firestick, my work around is to tell Alexa to find "Netflix " (or whatever you want) on FireTV...up it comes and then my remote works fine, it's bizarre!

@7catsisnotenough I'll try that next, the app doesn't help as it needs me to type in number I see on screen!

It's the only way I can get mine to work - but that's possibly an operator failure 🤣

Thanks to all those who tried to help. Nothing worked unfortunately but Amazon is sending me a replacement.
