Would you have been annoyed at the telephone message?

For context, I work part-time in a school, term-time only, obviously! Children (living at home) are in their teens, one at school, one at college.

Last night I noticed the Answerphone flashing, so picked up the message. It was from my sister-in-law, saying the following -
'Hi everyone, just checking in with you all about Sunday, still good with me!
I expect you're very close to school summer hols now Wisteria, with John (my dh=her brother) the only one working which can only be GOOD I suppose (said sarcastically). Catch up with you all later!'

She's just made it quite clear she looks down on my working arrangements, hasn't she! I work hard, she has no idea what working in a school is like! It sounded a nasty put-down to me, and has left me not wanting to meet up on Sunday! I'll play it to dh tonight, he's away at the moment. I'm fuming, tbh. 🤔

Is it possible she was being sarcastic about your husband working so he’s leaving you with all the responsibility for child care over the holidays? So saying that it looks like a long holiday, but actually may not be entirely relaxing for you.
Also wouldn’t rule out just voicemail clumsiness. If I have to say anything recorded, I panic and forget how to speak coherently.

What’s mildly irritating is that teachers claim to be so hard done by, they work no harder than anyone else, often less.

Whatever I claimed to be, nurse, road sweeper, train driver, cleaner or secretary you’d pile on me. So there’s no point.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read threads on posters moaning about their jobs.

Many of which are nannies or cleaners who don’t have a team to talk to things about so come on here.

No one piles on them because everyone understands that jobs are difficult in different ways.
It’s also impossible to judge a profession that you’ve never been in yourself.

But God forbid if the person moaning is a teacher then they get piled on because they’ve got ‘such an easy job’ and get ‘loads of holidays’ and what’s ironic is that it’s always from people who’ve never worked in that profession.

If it’s such an easy job then do it yourself.
If you don’t want to, then don’t judge something you know nothing about.

How do you know teachers 'often work less'?

Can't make head nor tail of what you wrote there. Sounds like joyful rambling of someone I don't care about. When you're thrust into being family with people there's no guarantee you will get along. There's a lot of absolutely nuts people out there and if you are put into a family with one of them just ignore them and their idiosyncrasies. Her thoughts on your husband's work situation or whatever it is she said (she did say John the only one working??) is neither here nor there, it's in her head and that's where it should stay.

Bollocks is it shared by a majority. You are just saying that to kid yourself on we're all as small minded as yourself.

She didn't criticise your job now. She criticised your husband, her brother, in a jokey manner.
