Incredibly loud planes late at night

This must be the second or third night an incredibly loud plane has flown right over my house around 10pm. I’m not on an airport flight path usually but think RAF planes occasionally pass over me. Feels so low and loud, like they’re about to crash into the house. I had a look on that Flight Radar website but there doesn’t seem to be anything that flown over me. What’s going on?

Have a look on here op and see if you can see it:

Are you in the South London/East Surrey area? I just heard the same. It was incredibly loud!

fabicelolly · 14/07/2022 22:53

Thank you! I’ll have to pounce next time it happens as whatever it is seems to be long gone now.

I’m in the east - I think it was flying east, perhaps out to the North Sea? but then it could be anywhere now!

We have had CH-47 Chinook helicopters flying over our house a few min drive north of Enfield. Never saw them before but a few times in the last couple of months. Does anyone know why they are flying so frequently?

Lots of large aircraft are arriving into Farnborough for the air show. They've been flying low level validation all week.

Hi, I live in Suffolk and hear these regularly. It's RAF base practising. We live near a local landmark which apparently they as a landmark as well, so often fly over us. If you are nearby in East Anglia then it may be the same.

I thought it might have been helpful, that's all

Oh. The post has just been removed as I replied

We get loads of military flyover here as we live in the middle of a perfect valley for training apparently. Scares the life out of you 8 out of 10 times with the sudden overhead noise.

Its not normal to able to see and wave to a pilot unless it's a holiday plane at the gate.

FlySwimmer · 15/07/2022 20:49

So many effin small planes fly over us constantly, some doing loop the loops or just circling pointlessly. They’re loud and obnoxious and I hate them.

fabicelolly · 16/07/2022 12:44

@parenthood1989 Ahh thank you that’s interesting - the timetable doesn’t quite explain where I am but it makes sense that the RAF would need to practice.

@Somethingvague I’m near RAF Neatishead but have lived here for years and not heard anything til now.

If it’s them practicing it’s almost reassuring, but with all that’s going on in the news it’s a bit scary to hear them late at night out of nowhere without warning.

I don’t know if this pic is helpful - Freedar App with overlays selected for air-to-air refuelling and other military control zones etc?

Also a low cloud base always amplifies the noise massively round here.

Just had a look at the freedar app for the first time. Can anyone tell me what the craic is with the UFOs?

woodpecker2 · 17/07/2022 23:45

I use
globe.adsbexchange.com
to look for military aircraft, often flying over loudly when I’m trying to sleep. Constantly flown over by light aircraft during the day. Really pisses me off!

twintek · 10/08/2023 01:21

one is currently flying over my house at 1:30am lol

twintek · 10/08/2023 01:22

planes are also louder during the night.

reducemug · 10/08/2023 06:51

there Have been fly pasts for the Edinburgh Tattoo OP. Most recent was last night. It was an A400 Atlas and 2 Typhoons. They came from Brize Norton and went to Lossiemouth. They were low flying.
