Wide Football boots for 11 year old who hates football for school.

Ds starts secondary school in September and we need to purchase football boots. He has really wide feet ( Clark's g or h fitting). I don't want to spend a fortune as he hates football but I need to find a pair he can actually get his foot in and will be comfortable. Any ideas of brands/ styles please.

Always had to go up a size for my DS , found some of the cheaper brands a more generous fit .

Nike always fitted my hobbit-footed DS. Go up sizes. Cheap leather ones will give more than plastic ones. Regrettably, Sports Direct is your friend here.

I buy rugby boots rather than football boots for my wide footed 11 yo. They seem to come in a normal foot shape whereas football boots are really skinny.

Years ago had similar problem with DS so he invariably ended up with 'hand me downs' from his brother or friends with bigger feet. Because they had been worn they had been broken in and stretched enough to make them more comfy for his incredibly wide feet. And when there weren't hand me downs available I'd buy second hand off eBay.

My DS has really wide feet, an H. We found adidas the best but as PP said you need to go up one or 2 sizes. I remember going to sports direct and just trying on a load. We were also given a pair of 2nd hand broken in ones (also adidas I think) which were great.

Mennex · 16/07/2022 08:33

My son is also an H and we have the same issue with football and rugby boots, in forst year he got an ingrown toenail as a result and had to have an operation. Anyway, we then found the boots in Decathlon were great for more width and room. They are made of much more supple material than the addidas/Nike ones and give a lot more.

If it has to be branded, Adidas give a lot more than Nike, which are for narrow feet only imo.

Adidas world cups, predator or kaiser are the only ones that fit my son, he has same width feet as your son. Will feel tight to start with get him to wear them with thick socks round the house for a few days… then they feel like socks according to my son x

thanks for all your suggestions. I think unfortunately we might have to visit sports direct but at least I have some particular styles to ask for. Had a v stressful visit about 6 months ago looking for trainers with a strappy tween who was becoming exasperated as he tried on dozens which just wouldn't fit. Ended up with womens new balance. He said to be rather sadly I will never be able to wear trendy styles I will be known as the New balance boy!

second hand/ broken in sound a good idea just reluctant to buy off eBay as if don't fit im stuck with them.

Have you checked with someone with a child at the school they’ll actually be used? They’re on the list for my school but half the kids don’t own them and it’s not a problem.

CharlotteOH · 30/07/2022 10:51

Thanks for the helpful post, same issue for us 👌

TheLion · 30/07/2022 11:55

Can't he just wear trainers?

Partey · 30/07/2022 12:00

Seasoned boot buyer for wide footed DS. He’s a size 6 and wears Nike premier or adidas Copa Mundial. Premiers are cheaper of the two but both are lovely leather, they last too.

cheesenpickle · 30/07/2022 22:44

thanks for all your suggestions. sports direct said nike are wider than Adidas which is at odds with what was said on here. We ended up with nike tiempo, second pair we tried on and they fit ! never left a shoe shop so quickly.

Clarks for school shoes took twice as long.
