Vertigo after a gastric bug??

I've had a nasty gastric bug, vomiting, knocked me out. Has been 4 days now since I vomited. Yesterday I got bad pains in my back, and today I've woken up with crazy vertigo, room is spinning when I move my head.

Can a gastric bug cause this? Anyone any ideas? Ta!

Sounds like how covid hit me. Have you done a test? I had the same symptoms last Jan as well but the vertigo only lasted a few hours. I didn't test then but my GP suggested it was covid.

Dehydration? If you've been vomming lots and the weather is warm where you are, you could try drinking rehydration salts.

There is also Guillaon Barre syndrome bit it's very rare

Sorry typo - Guillain Barre syndrome

@Cucumberbund hmm, I tested twice at the start of being I'll but it was negative ...

Glad your vertigo was short lived!

Tha ks @SatinHeart the Guillane Barray syndrome sounds horrible, very hopefully not that! I wondered about dehydration too, I've been on homemade rehydration fluid for past 2 days (1/2 tsp salt + 6 tsp sugar in 1L water).

I'm currently sitting at my laptop and feel like I'm on a boat!

Sounds totally like covid

TWmover · 14/07/2022 12:41

I had vertigo alongside a virus last year (not covid) and the Dr prescribed some tablets for it. Totally get the boat thing, I couldn't bare to look at a screen and was lying down with my camera off for work calls! The tablets worked and it passed very quickly thankfully.

Also just re-read about back pain...I'd re-test as could be covid.

juniperjump · 14/07/2022 16:52

Thanks all, I just re-tested but negative again.

Felt much better after a big lunch, so perhaps I needed some calories after a few days of gastric bug ...

I started suffering from vertigo and vomiting/ nausea in August 2021 . My GP was on holiday so I saw 2 other GPs who said and prescribed different things and didn´t refer me to a specialist In the end I saw an ENT specialist at a private clinic. He helped me to do the Brandt Daroff exercise and diagnosed BBPV after observing Nystagmus (eye movements.) The vertigo disappeared after that but came back this year. I did the Brandt Daroff exercise 3 times a day at home to get rid of it. It´s horrible the first few times because of the nausea but it works for me. I don´t know if there´s a connection but each time the vertigo came on about a month after the covid boosters.
