Hair colour for children?

My 11yo has asked if he can dye his hair in the holidays. I'm not sure if colouring a child's hair with (non permanent) dye is considered dodgy parenting? If so, are there any alternatives? He doesn't tend to ask for stuff very often so I'm not ruling it out but obviously we don't wanna end up with permanently blue/purple/yellow/whatever hair or some horrible hair chalk related disease.

What is his current hair like?

I use Directions hair dye on my 6 year old in the holidays. Planning on pink next week..

Apparently blue and green are the hardest to wash out so just be careful what he goes for. If he's struggling towards the end of summer several swims in a chlorinated pool and washing with something like Head and Shoulders should help strip it out

Ah this is reassuring, his current hair is medium-brown so we need to be realistic when choosing colours because bleaching might be a step too far 😁

I used to do mine purple or red in the summers, because it showed up on my brown hair, I would use permanent just because i liked the colour it faded out to (sort of pinky brown) but semi permanent will either be gone or very faded by the time school starts up.

Purple and red are easy to dye back to brown if they dont fade in time as well.

I think purple would be a good choice, I remember dying my hair 'plum' too as it was the only colour that worked on my hair other than black.

First dyed my hair (wash in/out) just a bit younger than that. I loved it!

Ds would love purple hair!

Maybe like a temporary dark red would show up well. I have brown hair and I got like ‘auburn’ hair from red dye
