very boring question about sauce in a jar.

Today I got some sauce for pasta in a jar.
when I use it I will only need half the jar. the other half won't get used in the "store in fridge for 2 weeks" timescale.
can I freeze it? if so, as it is from jar? or do I need to heat and cool it first.

What type of sauce is it?

You can freeze as is, don't freeze in the glass jar in case it smashes when defrosting. I do it into zip lock bags regularly

Yes, you can freeze it, I do it all the time.

Yes. Do as the Queen does (requires probably, rather than doing it herself) and pour it into a Tupperware container and put it in the freezer. No need to heat it first.

JetBlackSteed · 13/07/2022 16:00

Yes you can freeze it, but not in the glass jar. Decant it into a suitable container or freezer bag.

I would freeze it, pour straight from jar into ziplock bag as a PPhas also suggested.

Some sauces don't freeze well, but its worth trying it out!

Mrsjayy · 13/07/2022 16:02

Yes you can freeze it, put it in a freezer bag it will be fine.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 13/07/2022 16:03

You can freeze most things. Definitely a jarred sauce. No need to cook it first, just plop it in a freezer bag or some tupperware.

spfy · 13/07/2022 16:03

Yeah this is fine, in a tub and if it is tomatoey

Samcro · 13/07/2022 16:15

thanks. I don't normally by it in a jar(do get curry sauce but use while jar) its tomato and basil sauce for pasta.
