Is HSBC the hardest bank to log on to?

I don't class myself as particularly stupid but maybe I'm getting that way as hsbc baffles me.

Everytime I change my phone I have to start again with hsbc. The same old going round in circles. Different security keys, digital passwords, different terminology. Log onto mobile banking for this but then don't use mobile banking to generate something else.
🤯

Has anyone else found it hard to navigate? I can't even get through to anyone on the phone 😭

I've never had this problem with other banks I'm with. Is it me? I'm starting to worry I'm getting stupid

And I still can't log in!

I find them the most difficult to log into and purposefully don’t use that account much now.

I know this isn't helpful, but someone who worked for HSBC told me it means How Simple Becomes Complicated 😂

It was an utter PITA to set up. I called the helpline and was guided through it. Once done, the app is brilliant to use. Only problem is that I use Face ID to log in and have forgotten my password. So, will have to start again when I get a new phone.

RandomDentist · 13/07/2022 09:41

Once you get through all that it’s nice and simple. I just use Face ID to log into my account now.

Emog21 · 13/07/2022 09:42

Yes really difficult and I consider myself fairy tech savvy. I ended up changing banks because I got so frustrated by it all.

FlibbertyGiblets · 13/07/2022 09:44

It is hopeless,.just as you say, including them requesting I update the app then not recognising the app. I threw in the towel a year ago after 40 odd years of banking with HSBC (Midland bank as was) to Lloyds bank.

I was dealing with my late mother's affairs (died in Spring 2021) and the utterly rubbish HSBC banking system was not helpful. (Understatement)

I feel your pain. Put them in the bin.

Saladd0dger · 13/07/2022 09:45

Yes, I ended up ditching them a couple years ago. Always locking me out my account saying something was wrong and I had all passwords wrote out infront of me.

Actual snigger. Hahaha.

My bank doesn’t even have an app 🙄

RamblingFar · 13/07/2022 09:58

I still use them as my main account as I've been with them ages. However, all payments in and out go through another account with an easier app. I can top the other account up via visa to pay out, paying into HSBC from the other account is luckily seamless. I only use the actual HSBC app for checking my balance.

Vegansausageroll · 13/07/2022 10:00

I find the app super simple to use daily - just a log in code?

It’a been a couple of years since I changed my phone though so not sure about that process.

Wafflehouse · 13/07/2022 10:01

Yes, the set up was ridiculous and for the first few times I was stuck in a loop of the digital key blah blah blah. Now I have Face ID set up it’s no hassle. I only have it for a credit card but I couldn’t cope with it as my main bank, they just seem too much hassle.

imakingsmummy · 13/07/2022 10:02

Thank goodness I'm not alone. I was starting to worry I was getting stupid in my old age!

I agree it's fine once you are logged in but god help anyone who changes their phones like I've done . 😩

I moved from HSBC for this reason and went to TSB, so much better. It drove me mad!!

Featuredcreature · 13/07/2022 10:07

When I got a new phone the Barclays app had me rubbing my card on my phone, I was very Hmm hmm OK, felt like a joke.

Roystonv · 13/07/2022 10:11

PITA as I don't have a mobile told I needed a 'number' generator type thing to approve/validate purchases in future. Could not order online! Had to talk to them. 90 minute waits for their chat. Finally rang and got lovely person very patient as I muddled through all their security. Yes asking for things I knew but not in a way I recognised what she wanted. New terminology being used. I am over 60 and just thought it was me being an idiot. They seem determined to block you from spending your money instead of thinking most transactions will be genuine. Worries me a lot as I get older with no local branch anymore.

SgurrNaCìche · 13/07/2022 10:21

Tried to set up online banking . Failed. Tried again. Failed.
Have set myself the challenge of managing it by the end of July.
Currently have to ask my kids to send money to others (via their different bank) and then I give them the cash.
It shouldn't be this hard!
