My dd was aged about 9,when she woke up one night-screaming and crying her eyes out
i shot upstairs (as fast as I could at 8 months pregnant) and she swore blind she saw a giant pair of hands, with a lump on the left forefinger instead of a nail, come out of the wall towards her
i calmed her down and put it down to a nightmare
anyway, about a week later, she woke up again, screaming and crying-I shot out of bed and she swore blind there had been ‘a mr with silver hair,an odd eye,a lump on his finger, was wearing a grey cardigan and nhs glasses, stood in my bedroom doorway-he smiled at me and told me everything was going to be ok and that he loved us but for some odd reason,he had no feet’
my granddad (who brought me up,who had died before she had been born) had sliver (not grey!) hair, had been blind in one eye due to an accident at work,he had no nail on his forefinger, proudly wore his nhs glasses,I used to love wearing his grey cardigan and had real issues with his feet
shed never seen a picture of him nor had I ever told her what he looked like in any detail
we went through some real issues not long after and he was right-it was all ok in the end
15 years on,she still swears blind she saw him
a few years later my son told me that when he was in my tummy,so was his brother
they both went to sleep, and when he woke up his brother had gone
i was pregnant with twins, but lost one early on-he couldn’t have known this
same child used to sing a song he’d learnt at school-‘there’s a worm at the bottom of my garden, and his name is wiggly woo’
every single day for weeks,he’d nag me to come see ‘wiggly woo’ at the bottom of our garden-which was the worlds smallest yard which led out to a passageway-I’d never seen a worm there
anyway I thought I’d humour him and show him there wasn’t a worm there-he took my hand and dragged me to the gate which was at the bottom of the yard
there was the biggest worm I’ve ever seen, wiggling about just in front of the gate
my son just shrugged and said ‘told you so’ the other kids swore blind they’d never seen one in the yard before, let alone right at the spot my son pointed out-he said he just knew
