How do royals/celebs etc keep cool and unflustered?

Prompted by the Wimbledon men’s final yesterday, I got to thinking how the royals and celebs stay cool, unrumpled, shine/sweat/sunburn free despite the blazing sun - any clues?

My face gets so red and sweaty in these circumstances and I just feel so uncomfortable and ugly, yet others can seemingly maintain their composure, and I really want to know HOW?! Do they have secret air conditioning outlets in their suit pockets? Invisible minions wafting fans? Blocks of ice down their underwear?

I’m utterly flummoxed!

Well, they are pretty much all very thin. Catherine is incredibly so. I imagine I would be significantly less of a sweaty mess if I weren't three stone overweight.

SirChenjins · 11/07/2022 15:58

I have no idea - so watching with interest! We went to the hell that are the Florida theme parks in July a few years back and there were definitely two camps of extreme heat people - those of looked cool, calm and collected and those of us who looked like sweaty, frizzy haired, bad tempered messes.

SirChenjins · 11/07/2022 15:59

I’m not overweight Confused

RaleighDurham · 11/07/2022 16:00

I think I read somewhere that the Royal Box is cool - whether that's through air-con or because it's not in full sun but both would help.

Cuck00soup · 11/07/2022 16:01

Well they don't usually have to walk far.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 11/07/2022 16:03

I think you are looking at it backwards. If, like you say, there are people who generally look cool and composed and beautiful in a range of temperatures, surely those people are going to be more likely to succeed in an industry that prizes attractiveness? Take those days in the Florida theme park. Imagine you are going to pick someone out to become a film star - it's not going to be one of the sweaty, angry mess people is it?!

Royals? Dunno. Centuries of good breeding? Selecting for the ability to look good under pressure? Social conditioning from a young age to look the part at all times, regardless of personal discomfort? It's amazing what mind over matter can achieve.

I’m talking about regular visitors to the theme parks (like us). Sorry, not understanding what you mean by picking someone out to be a film star?

That would certainly make sense

Ncwinc · 11/07/2022 16:14

Well at least one member of the Royal Family doesn’t sweat Wink

Mushroo · 11/07/2022 16:15

Not walking places will really help. Going from an air conditioned car to sitting down is vastly easier than having trekked to the tube station, sat on a sweaty tube and then battled through a ticket barrier (via a long queue) before finally locating your seat and squeezed past everyone on your row.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 11/07/2022 16:18

The OP is saying that there seems to be two types of people - type A sweaty mess, type B cool and collected.

I'm saying that the reason celebs are all type A isn't because they have been let into some secret, it's that type A people are more likely to be successful in jobs (like acting) which prize looks and public presentation.

So if you were a wannabe actor but you became a red faced, sweaty mess huffing and puffing once the thermometer reaches 27, you are far less likely to become successful. It gets hot under stage lights!

MintJulia · 11/07/2022 16:20

They don't have to rush anywhere, sort last minute school trips, understudy for boss not showing up to do presentation, or queue for hours for Wimbledon tickets.
They stroll from a chauffeured air-conditioned car to a reserved seat where someone else keeps them supplied with drinks.
I'm betting they didn't have to retrieve the cool box from the loft at 7am either. 😁

Simonjt · 11/07/2022 16:22

They don’t have to ask their children 857 times to put their shoes on, they don’t have to hunt for parking or stand on a boiling hot tube, they don’t have to sit in general admission and have aircon blown directly on them from underneath/the feet area of the royal box.

UserNo274729473 · 11/07/2022 16:32

I don't think weight always has much to do with it. I'm overweight and don't sweat much whereas my partner is very slim and sweats bad in the heat!!

I read that the royal area at Wimbledon was air conditioned! After being driven in their expensive air conditioned cars!

Kinsters · 11/07/2022 16:39

Yes, it's the to-ing and fro-ing that makes you hot and bothered and they don't have to do any of that.

FictionalCharacter · 11/07/2022 17:31

Who’s saying the royal box is air conditioned? That’s not possible, it’s just fenced off area f the seating, it doesn’t have a roof!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/07/2022 17:35

Not everyone is sweaty. I rarely sweat much, even when it's very hot or I'm vigorously working out. I'm not overweight atm, but even when I was I still didn't sweat much.

x2boys · 11/07/2022 17:39

Well I imagine if you have people around you seeing to your every whim ,and endless supply of cold drinks ,s and air conditioning its pretty easy 🤷‍♂️

007DoubleOSeven · 11/07/2022 17:42

They have teeny tiny servants in royal livery flying about them fanning them constantly with hundreds of teeny tiny fans.

They royal livery doesn't show up on cameras so we can't see them.

There could be cool air coming up through vents in the floor.

Compared to us mortals, Royals definitely have it easy on a hot day.

We experienced a tiny snippet of what it might be like once.
In Rome in August in the middle of a heatwave and we booked a private guide complete with chauffeur in a suit and air conditioned Merc.
I remember being dropped outside the entrance of the Colleseum and being greeted by another man in a suit and ushered inside through a private door. No ticket queueing for us.
Our driver told us he would park up the hill and when he saw us come out - he would come and pick us up.

I don’t know how he managed to spot us in all the crowds but he literally whooshed out of nowhere, got out of the car, complete with chauffeur hat and shades, opened the door for us and whooshed us off to the Trevi Fountain. Literally the crowds parted to let us through. It must have been a bit of a disappointment to see us getting out of the car but hey ho we ran with it.

We got quite a few looks 😎

Not once did the kids moan about the heat. Even Mr Jolie remained unsweaty for the whole day.
Ice cold water waiting for us in the car and air con was bliss.

Whereswoolysweater · 11/07/2022 18:27

Chemical sunscreen like Frezyderm. Game changer and not even that expensive. Thanks to mumsnet I discovered this and have been sweat free since!

SheSaysShush · 11/07/2022 18:30

The royal box has got to be cool, there were fools in waist coats, shirts, ties and blazers!

Pootles34 · 11/07/2022 18:34

@notangelinajolie - I really need to know more, where do you find out about such things?
