New Driver Insurance - Advice appreciated! - Direct Line or alternative

Our Ford Fiesta is currently insured with Direct Line for my husband and me, but DS (18) passed his driving test a few days ago and we want to add him, either as an additional driver to our policy, or with his own add-on insurance policy. I'm prepared for this to be expensive, and will consider a black box.

Any recommendations? I filled in a MoneySupermarket comparitor form and it gave me a lowest quote of £1026 (for all 3 of us) - is this typical or should I expect to get it for less? If we took that one, would we be able to get money back on our current Direct Line policy for ending it early? (We renewed it in March so it hasn't been running for long).

I tried to get a comparative quote from Direct Line, but even though I clicked the DrivePlus Telematics insurance option for young drivers, it didn't seem to want to give me one - it just encouraged me to put in all his details, then said no policy was available. Why would this be? He has had no accidents or anything that might make him uninsurable. I suspect I may have answered a question wrongly e.g. perhaps when it asked how long he had had his license it meant his provisional license (14 months) rather than his full license (0 months), but it wasn't clear. 🤔I'll need to call them, but I'd like to get a bit of insight from mumsnetters first if possible. Any tips appreciated! (I'm tying myself in knots online, and hate having to give so much personal info just to get a quote).

The quote you have is similar to my DC quotes the first year. I'd be surprised if you got it much cheaper.

From memory it is how long they have held a full licence. Not a provisional licence.
