Where are your happy places?

I am sitting in my garden, mug of tea in hand, listening to the bees and watching the butterflies. It's my happy place.
I started to think about my other happy places. My top 5 came out as;

My garden in the summer
Charity shops
French pharmacies
Book shops
Italy ( specifically the Amalfi coast)

Where are your top 5 happy places? With friends and family are a given.

By the sea

There's something very relaxing about being near the sea.

My sitting room

Agree with pps about the sea - the roll of the waves, the screeching of gulls, toddlers waddling along the beach with their buckets and spades, happy dogs being brought for a walk, the smell of fish and chips, the feel of warm sand under bare feet.

Sun holidays. The smell of sun cream, happy holiday makers, the chatter of foreign languages, enticing smells from restaurants, ice creams.

Beautiful gardens - the ones you pay to visit.

Sitting at a coffee table or restaurant table with a group of friends.

FreezyFreezy · 10/07/2022 13:24

The summerhouse in our garden. It's like our very own beach hut.

A coffee shop, by myself, with cake and tea, watching the world go by.

On or beside the beach (but not on boiling hot days like today).

My bed.

We have just swapped our caravan for a little house by the sea, that's my all time favourite place.

Then:

Charity shops
A nice café
National trust sites

Louise0701 · 10/07/2022 13:56

My garden
My reading corner in the snug
Kefalonia; pretty much all of it
A beautiful bakery / coffee shop just outside Brittany. I can never remember the name but I absolutely love it.
Marina De La Duquesa. I lived in Sabinillas as a child for a period and I loved walking around there.

iklboo · 10/07/2022 13:57

My home - specifically clean bed, clean me, clean PJs, good book, candle, cats, music or watching TV with DH & DS and we're all having a good laugh

Norwegian fjords

Betws-y-Coed

Woods & forests

Near the sea (but not beaches. I despise sand with an absolute passion)

StellaOlivetti · 10/07/2022 13:58

My garden
The beach
libraries
France especially the south west
my bed, reading a book, with the dog asleep on my feet

UndertheEagle · 10/07/2022 14:06

The sea, by the ocean.

Any other body of water comes second.

The Lake District

saveforthat · 10/07/2022 15:20

My home (overlooking the sea)

My regular dog walk route along the sea wall.
In a bath with candles and a glass of wine.
On the masseurs table
Swimming

DontKeepTheFaith · 10/07/2022 15:23

By the sea
Home
My bed particularly in the afternoon
Out in the hills walking. Currently in the Peak District, also love the Lakes and nearer home, the South Downs.

I wouldn’t say with family is a given! Look at how many posts there are with family fall-outs, hostile environments, abusive & manipulative behaviour etc.

My kids might be my happy place, but when my husband is here is hell on earth.

Come to think of it, I don’t really have a happy place at all!

goldfinchonthelawn · 10/07/2022 15:25

On our garden swing in the early morning sunshine
At the kitchen door, coffee in hand, watching the wildlife feed and bathe in our garden
Walking in our local woods
RHS Wisley. GPs can now prescribe a trip there. DH has taken me there a few times when I have been very low and it works as well as an antidepressant.

inmyslippers · 10/07/2022 15:26

French pharmacies?

Being near water, not in it though.
Parks
Charity shops
Brunch dates
Sitting outside a cafe

In my garden, early morning before the sun becomes too hot

cuddling my grown up children.

onemouseplace · 10/07/2022 17:19

The North Norfolk coast.
My bed.
Claridges for afternoon tea.
WIth a cold pint of lager in a shady beer garden in the height of summer.
With a good book.

MadMadMadamMim · 10/07/2022 17:23

My garden, with a coffee on the patio
The nearby beach in winter, when there isn't anyone else there
My bed, cosy bedside lights on and a book to read
Any decent second hand bookshop
Browsing in a charity shop

Rwealere · 10/07/2022 17:25

French pharmacies?

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 10/07/2022 17:39

Lovely thread!
Sitting outside our summerhouse reading a magazine with the bunnies round my feet.
Swimming in the sea alone
A spa day alone
Curled up on my oldest friend’s sofa, large glass of wine in hand, roaring with laughter. Apart from DH, nobody makes me laugh like she does.
Walking through bluebell woods or a rose garden
Sitting at the piano
The theatre - I just love the whole experience, especially musicals
In bed with DH on Sunday mornings
Another vote for wandering round charity shops
Driving along with DD in the passenger seat, singing at the tops of our voices.
