I don't even know if I'm being really clueless asking this but I want to make sure there'll be no repercussions.

Got offered a job a couple of weeks ago starting in a couple of months when the position officially opens.
I signed the contract - in which it states I have to give them 4 weeks notice.

I have a potential better offer for my career aspects though.

Even if I've signed the contract, can I pull out of it? Does it have to be over a month notice due to the notice period even before I commence the job?

They aren’t going to stop you. Just pull out.

In reality this won’t be pursued. Just tell them as soon as possible and be as polite as possible so as to not burn any bridges.

Congrats!

I pulled out of a job I had signed for earlier this year. No problems doing this at all.
