Decathlon pop up tent. What sorcery is this?! (Help!)

Tent purchased for some occasional camping, I thought not having to bother with tent poles etc would be just wonderful... so it's a pop up tent.

Of course, I'm not an idiot so I'm testing it before we go away, but I don't have a garden.

I have a pop up tent in my kitchen.

It wont go back to being a nice round package again, the clips don't line up, and the decathlon video is not really helping. Someone here MUST know what trickery is needed to reclaim my kitchen from the devil tent.

Help!

if it rains you will get soaked! pop up tents are good for one thing..... wasting money

It won't break when you push it into a figure 8. Have faith.

I can single handedly fold and pack our decathlon beach tent down in less than 2 minutes. I spent weeks practicing obsessively before we went out with it.

Would it be easier to move house?

God tent pole tents are the easiest tents. Go up easily and come down easily.

DH bought an inflatable tent which was an absolute disaster and popup tents are dark magic

Yodaisawally · 09/07/2022 19:31

You have to double
Dip it back on itself. They're a PItA!

daisyjgrey · 09/07/2022 19:40

There is no solution. Simply cut it up into small pieces, put in a bin bag and never speak of it again. It's the only way in my experience.

Would it be easier to move house?

Or this. This is a solid approach.

How do men work out how to do it Grin

Funnily enough my husband has been stuck in a bra before 🤣

averythinline · 09/07/2022 19:52

After 5 of us wrestling 1 into a bag ...all experienced campers , scout leaders, expedition people...... i gifted ours to someone i dont like Grin they are a fantastic passive aggressive present!

Haha this brought back funny memories for me. It's like playing twister with yourself. There is a knack as others have mentioned, and the only way to discover it is to watch the Youtube videos. I also had to watch the videos again on the campsite when I used it for real and had to pack it back up.

Agree very much with this. But would also it doesn't even have to rain. We were soaked from our own condensation 😂

It is now a play tent and we have a Vango Air tent for real camping now.

Once you get it flat you have to hold it on opposite 'corners' then twist it on to itself.
It's easier to show than explain.
I am a whizz with folding up pop up tents but that's of absolutely no use to you - sorry😂😂😂😂

This is the only thing I am good at.

I get it into a figure of eight, half close my eyes and then belieeeeve …

Arucanafeather · 09/07/2022 20:05

Once you get it you will find it does take seconds. We love pop up tents. When we started we were almost the only one in the campsite. After a very, very windy night, ours was the only one in our area not suffering from broken poles etc, it just bent with the wind. Always found it rainproof too.

MuddlingThroughLifeLittleByLittle · 09/07/2022 20:05

I cant even get the kids play tent/tunnel set back in the bag. Its just folded flat against wall in garage!

megletthesecond · 09/07/2022 20:08

Maybe some of us could earn a few quid as professional pop up tent packer-away experts.

cantsleep2022 · 09/07/2022 21:29

@ErrolTheDragon

The garage 😂

Absolutely not true! My decathlon 4.2 seconds has never leaked in 10 years. It's brilliant

cantsleep2022 · 09/07/2022 23:23

@Clymene but how do I put it down ?

That's the model I have
