Did British Gas lie to me?!

I have not yet switched to a fixed tarrif on BG (though we’ve had a few made available to us through their online system) I checked my British Gas account Monday evening and found a good fix, tried to switch to this tarrif but got a message to say as I had closed my account I couldn’t switch, (I hadn’t closed my account, that was the first I knew about it).

So I called Tuesday and was told I was being switched over to BG Evolve and that it was a ‘new online’ system, the guy on the phone told me I should wait to switch until next week (once the move to their new online system had completed) because evolve is cheaper and I would DEFINFIELY get a cheaper deal than the fix offered to me currently. I asked him to assure me and said I would be very annoyed if things changed and he had persuaded me out of fixing on the day and then prices went up/things changed again…

low and behold there was an announcement yesterday by Martin Lewis so I’ve gone online today, conveniently I’ve been switched over to their new online system and now guess what… ‘there are no fix deals available to you!’

i can’t call because they are only open Monday - Friday…

have I been lied to?! Surely they can’t do this?!

anyone else had a similar story this last week and can shed any light on this?
