So just had my daughters birthday party it finished at 2pm all guests have left apart from one mum and son...it's now half 3 (not in uk!) and she won't leave! I've left her chatting to my husband I've started clearing stuff up....she doesn't seem to Have got the hint I am shattered after the party just want to sit in the peace and quiet! Help!!!

Politely ask her to leave .say you have some other visitors arriving or you are meeting up with others.
If that fails bluntly tell party is over and she needs to go

Why don't you try asking her? "Thank you for coming, we're going to clean up now so shall I show you out? Don't forget your party bag etc"

That's so annoying - why should you be clearing up on your own while they sit and chat? You're going to have to be assertive now and say, "Husband, don't leave me to do all the clearing up alone!" then turn to the woman and say, "Sorry, this will take us ages to clear up now, so we'll have to call it a day." Stand there with your mop and vacuum cleaner till she goes.

Hand her some bin bags and the hoover and thank her for staying to help tidy up? Grin

I second this! Bizarrely, I am far too polite to usher someone out but not too polite to insist she helps clean up if she stays.

She's gone! Told her we had to drop our other kids off at something! I'm completely opposite I'm always very aware when I need to leave!
