We saw this on our back patio last night. Never seen anything like it! Anyone know what type of spider it is? I am having nightmares about it coming in the house!

I'm not normally freaked out about insects and spiders but this is on another level.

omg that’s a beast! I don’t know what it is but I hope it doesn’t come in your house x

userxx · 08/07/2022 21:21

No idea but it's big! Never seen a spider with such a big body.

userxx · 08/07/2022 21:23

Google is telling me tangle web spider.

KilljoysDutch · 08/07/2022 21:23

Brown recluse! Joking I'm sure it's a black lace orb weaver.

Inthesameboatatmo · 08/07/2022 21:24

Looks like a tube Web spider to me

DeanStockwelll · 08/07/2022 21:24

They do give quite a nip !

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 08/07/2022 22:09

@Inthesameboatatmo am assuming that as long as we leave it alone, it'll leave us alone. I hope so anyway.

Could you not try a catch and relocate?

Burgerqueenbee · 08/07/2022 22:15

I had a very small one come into the house but I don't think they do habitually. I got my DH to evict it because I thought it looked nefarious Blush

EmmiJay · 08/07/2022 22:17

This is why I buy Raid every season. Nope. No. Nope.

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/07/2022 22:22

its a sort of funnel web type spider. We live in a granite house in Jersey and have loads in the outer walls of our house. They are fine as long as you leave them alone.

BTW, I hate spiders!

If ii see it again I might do. Certainly don't want to harm it. Will go and have a nosey tomorrow and see if I can spot it's hidey hole!

Thanks all x

We had one we gently evicted from the house. Little sod bit me before it ran away.

FindingMeno · 08/07/2022 22:34

That's a good lookin' beastie ❤

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 08/07/2022 22:39

I haven't told my tween that they bite, or she will never sleep again 😂

I have a beautiful garden spider that has made its home on my kitchen window. I messaged my window cleaner today to tell him not to clean that window next time he is around. I love watching her.

Black beasties, however, can fuck off

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 09/07/2022 07:09

My options would be either flamethrower or move house!

Eddielizzard · 09/07/2022 07:23

We get them outside the house and in the garden. Don't know what they're called, but they're not the usual house spiders - no patterning. I've found them very shy and will run away.
