It was an accident but he was being an idiot IYSWIM. Riding his new scooter too fast in a public garden and crashed into 5YO little sister of a friend who has a lump on her head and is in A+E getting checked out. Both of us feel really bad, the mum is being lovely but I don't know what else I should be doing

Nothing? Accidents happen. It wont be last.
Just message the mum and ask how the dd is later.

Were you with this family, or did they just happen to be in the park? Could he have hit an elderly person

GylesBrandrethNewJumper · 06/07/2022 15:09

You should be stopping him from going so fast where there are people are about before he seriously hurts someone.

My elderley next door neighbour broke her arm when she fell after being crashed into by a scooter.

I would check in with mum later on make sure little one is okay. If it's a close friends sister maybe get him to make a card saying sorry and take her some sweets or bake some little cakes

How old is your DS?

CrispieCake · 06/07/2022 15:16

How old is your DS? Depending on age, he should know better but I'm assuming you've already told him that.

I would check with the mum how her DD is and encourage your DS to send a get well soon/sorry card that he writes himself, with maybe some sweets or chocolate for the little girl bought from his pocket money. Also, I'd ask the mum if she'd had any expenses from taking the girl to hospital (taxi etc.) that you could cover.

Teach him about using the thing properly then when she’s home go round with sweets or flowers and a massive apology.

Would that be worse then?
why

Thanks everyone. He's 9, he's gone everywhere on a scooter since he was 3 and usually he's really good, but he was a complete knobhead today which he knows and says he will have nightmares.

Several families met up in a library and adjoining gardens, it happened when he had gone on ahead of me out of the library so he won't be doing that for a bit!

Can you ask your DS to make a card / draw a picture (depending on age) saying sorry to give to the injured child ?
