TheWeeDonkey · 06/07/2022 07:28

Yes, of course I do.

TooManyAnimals94 · 06/07/2022 07:29

I make the first one and show them where everything is but then they can help themselves.

Sparklingbrook · 06/07/2022 07:29

Yes, or let them do it if I’m not there. Why wouldn’t you?

aftonwater · 06/07/2022 07:29

Yes. I set up a drink station for them with tea, coffee and squash and a tin of biscuits.

trevthecat · 06/07/2022 07:31

I tell them where everything is and get out of the way

FourChimneys · 06/07/2022 07:32

Hot drinks, homemade cakes and use of the toilet. I know that's unpopular on here though.

Ragwort · 06/07/2022 07:35

Yes of course.

Honaloulou · 06/07/2022 07:37

A handyman we had in last week told me that the man in the house he’d been at that morning kept going into the kitchen where he was working, making himself tea, and wandering out without even acknowledging him.

Needless to say that’s not my style….

girlmom21 · 06/07/2022 07:39

Yes unless they're dickheads like the electrician who mocked me for telling him he'd wired the light switch wrong until I told him to compare it to another switch he'd done - so one of them must have been wrong as they worked in opposite ways.

He didn't apologise so he got nothing from me after than and was supervised by the man who owned the business. He loved that...

gunnersgold · 06/07/2022 07:42

Get a tray with coffee and tea and milk and a Kettle and put it where they are working with daily fresh biscuits and bits and let them help themselves .. I found that worked really well when we had our extension . I also had a supply of coke and squash in a fridge them could get to .

nokitchen · 06/07/2022 07:42

Just had builders here for six months. They knew where the kettle, tea, coffee and toilet was and just got on with it

SpinningForTheWorld · 06/07/2022 07:45

Yes, I want to keep on the right of a very valuable human ‘commodity’ 😄 They can drink and eat what they like. I’ll make them a drink and they can help themselves.

Same with paying on time - I’m conscientious about that.

I need the roofer to come back and I’m hoping he remembers me as a not-an-arsehole customer and can fit me in soon.

It’s so difficult to get tradesmen booked in round here now, for big or small jobs.

MrsTimRiggins · 06/07/2022 07:45

I tend to make the first one then show them where the kettle is, leave out teabags/coffee/sugar etc. I sometimes make a cake, depends how nice I’m feeling… and how nice they are 😂

OldTinHat · 06/07/2022 07:45

I'm blessed with the world's best tradesperson/builder/handyman so I ply him with tea, bacon sarnies, McDonald's, beer...hahaha! I don't want to lose him!

Coastalcreeksider · 06/07/2022 07:46

Yes always and I also bought cans of Coke as they asked for cold drinks. They could also help themselves to hot or cold drinks as I wasn't around all the time to make them.

Coffeetree · 06/07/2022 07:46

I did when I lived with my husband but the last time I did that as a single woman, the engineer decided that meant it would be okay to send me a drunken text from his personal phone that night.

It's a shame because I used to provide a whole range of refreshments and now I am very businesslike.

maddy68 · 06/07/2022 07:46

Of course. Everyone I make one for myself I make one for them

Roselilly36 · 06/07/2022 07:47

Always make drinks and offer biscuits, toast if I am having some while they are working, DH has made bacon or sausage sandwiches for tradesmen in the past too.

LizBennet · 06/07/2022 08:04

Of course, or they can make their own if I'm out.

CrapBag39 · 06/07/2022 08:08

Yes, everybody gets fed and watered in this house builder/gardener delivery drivers, postpeople. If you’re coming here prepare to be fed.

endofthelinefinally · 06/07/2022 08:13

I buy a load of mugs from the charity shop and set them up with a jar of tea bags, milk, sugar and a packet of digestives next to the kettle. Cold drinks too if the weather is hot. They need drinks if they are doing heavy work.

BruceAndNosh · 06/07/2022 08:15

I normally offer them a tea /coffee when I'm making one myself.
If they are here for several days and bring their own lunch, I tell them to let me know when they are having lunch break and I'll make them a drink to go with it.

Our kitchen fitters got takeaway bacon Baps both days they were here as they were awesome.

I don't usually keep biscuits in the house as I have no self control!

SparklingPeach · 06/07/2022 08:17

I make them drinks a couple of times a day but I don't offer snacks.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/07/2022 08:18

Top tip
If you provide a Help Yourself tray for ongoing builders, a bowl of sugar lumps is less messy than loose sugar

ZenNudist · 06/07/2022 08:18

Yes to tea no to snacks but I don't have snacks myself.
