Freeze them for puddings in winter, make cordial, make jelly (jam with no pips)
Make a sour sauce.

Blackcurrant muffins are divine.
Blackcurrant jam is the best jam.
Homemade blackcurrant concentrate is a million times better than Ribena.
Blackcurrant tart.
Make a compôte to have with ice cream, porridge, yoghurt, anything else.

I have some plums and cherries rhat need using so probably going to make a compote with those

I still have last year's harvest in my freezer, waiting for me to turn it into concentrate. I'll have to do it now that this year's currants are nearly ready. Grin

I've made mead (melomel) with ours - it's bubbling away happily in the hall right now :)

Blackcurrant sorbet is wonderful.

MORE JAM

user1471538283 · 05/07/2022 22:13

Oh wow! My DGM used to make jam and blackcurrant pie (no apple because I only liked a pie with blackcurrants).

You could make a compote and whip in yogurt to make frozen yogurt!

When we move I want a blackcurrant Bush!

gospelsinger · 05/07/2022 23:10

Freeze a mix of berries to add to yogurt or overnight oats for breakfast throughout the year.
If you don't have more berries, add them to a bag of frozen strawberries or raspberies from supermarket.

gospelsinger · 05/07/2022 23:12

I love blackcurrant pie too, but once you've spent ages picking the bloody things there's no time to make a pie. Freeze them and make it later

Ihatethedawnchorus · 05/07/2022 23:19

Got a nice crop of gooseberries(purple ones) nearly ready to pick as well, unfortunately raspberries don't seem to like our garden

I freeze some and make overnight oats with the frozen berries. I also use them to make blackcurrant gin.
