Is the top or bottom of the nails flattened or worn? At least then you would know which way up it goes.

It's a watering can, silly. At least it used to be an ornamental wooden one, but the wood has all rotted away.

I think it goes up the other way and its a home made gadget for circular knitting....like the knitting tops made out of a cotton reel.

I used to live in a flat and I found it at the back of a cupboard there when I moved in. It moved house with me, and I just came across it again.
