I don't want to sound all "woe is me" or anything but up until now (aged 23) my life has consisted of a lot of trauma and unfortunate events. I know life is like this for a lot of people and I wanted to know, when did your big break finally come? I hate to sound dramatic but I feel like life has been a failure from the start

At 23. Don’t give up. I’m not so sure there is such a thing as a ‘big break’. Things just start to Change for the better, usually because you have made efforts to change things in your life however small. I made a series of small decisions which altered the course of my life.

I'm 38 now and mine still hasn't come 😣. No matter what I do and how much I try to change things, it all ends up being a bag of shit. I'd love to get a break from it all. Based on my family's experiences, if you think a break is coming, something will come along to knock you off your feet again.
I hope you get your break soon OP.

About 29, I moved, settled in. Got a job I liked with people I liked and I was good at. It was well paid enough to start getting deposit together for a house and got a handle on money.. I was ditched by a highly unsuitable boyfriend. Was single for a bit and then met someone very sensible. Now married.

I think I stopped trying to be something I wasn’t and became better at being me. I’m now mid 50s and content. You’ll get there.

Thanks guys, I've just been doing a lot of reflecting lately and can't help but notice that it's been a constant battle

I don't think I've ever had a 'big break' but just slowly progressed from one thing to another.
Keep going and keep your goals in mind. Imagine where you'd like to be in 5 yrs time and take the relevant steps.
