Cats and sofas

My cat (rescue moggy) is destroying my sofas.

The sofas were relatively expensive and made with a tweed like woven material so get trashed - I try covering them with bedspread which look terrible and inevitably don't cover the sofas properly so she can still trash them.

My house is fairly small and dark so if I close the sitting room door permanently it's depressing as I lose all the light from that room coming into the rest of the house.

She's got full access to outside at all times, lots of suitable scratching posts etc.

I'm actually starting to hate her because I can't see a future for the next 20 years where I can have a sofa that isn't trashed.
The cat also trashes the carpets, but I can live with that because they are old and cheap and I will replace with wooden floors throughout when I get round to it as I can't have carpets anymore either obviously.

(My last rescue cat lived to 20 and never scratched anything in the house).

It's sad but I find it upsetting because I haven't got a big house and I like looking after it and having it look nice. I also have a dog and I've had pets my whole life do I know they do have an impact on your decor - but never like this particular cat!

Double sided sticky tape on the edge of the sofa
They hate that stuff. After a few months you might be able to remove the tape. In the meantime , ensure treats are given for post scratching.
