sore boobs

I've recently come off the contraceptive pill I'm mid 40s, and am now experiencing extremely tender, painfully sore boobs for almost 2 weeks out of every month before my period is due. I wouldn't mind but I only have a small bust but they are so tender that they feel huge!, no idea how larger busted women go on. can anyone recommend anything to ease my sore boobs discomfort?

I get this too and haven't found anything that works, other than wearing very soft non-wired bras 24hrs a day. I tried evening primrose oil and it didn't make any difference.

I've had to take my bra off today it was so uncomfortable. I remember putting savoy cabbage leaves in my bra years ago after the birth of dc as I was advised to do as I didn't breast feed to ease the discomfort. I'll be buying one in asda tomorrow to try that 🤣.mind you i don't fancy walking round with sweaty cabbage leaves in my bra in the middle of summer. I was thinking of evening primrose I won't bother then if it didn't work for you @Penguintears

Are you pregnant? That was my first symptom every time...

Evening primrose oil can help. I've cysts that can become very painful and evening primrose oil can help. You have to take it consistently and it takes a while to notice a difference but I was surprised by how much it helped. That and hrt but there was a significant improvement with the epo before I started hrt.

@LadyMonicaBaddingham 100% no definitely not pregnant!

I tried everything for sore boobs and the only thing that worked long term for me was starflower oil.

Stressybetty · 01/07/2022 20:20

My boobs are more tender and fluctuating in size after going on HRT. Uncomfortable going without support. Ended up getting a very comfortable wired sports bra in a few sizes.

BDeyes · 01/07/2022 20:20

@Junipar never heard of starflower oil, I shall have a Google. x

EPO/starflower oil didn't help me but you could always try it as it does seem to help some people. Just be careful of mental health side effects though, I've seen lots of threads on mumsnet about people complaining of this.

I've always suffered with this and it went off the scale with peri menopause.

Nothing really helps tbh.

April90 · 01/07/2022 20:27

I'm in the same boat OP. I'm a C cup so not huge and my boobs get so sore nearly bursting out my bra when I'm due on. Starts about 10 days. I normally just wear a bralette with light support and put up with it

BDeyes · 01/07/2022 20:45

@Penguintears I actually came off the contraceptive pill as I was suspecting it was contributing to my high anxiety and to be honest I have improved since coming off it. not heard the mental health side effects with EPO. Another poster mentioned their sore boobs increased with peri menopause I've actually wondered if this is the case for me too as I can relate to a lot of the peri menopause symptoms I read about and I am mid 40s.

When I went on sequential HRT patches, the 2 weeks with progesterone were beyond horrific, didn't last on it long!

I think I am very progesterone sensitive.
