Royal Mail are big fat stinky fibbers

I'm narked. Very narked.

Two days ago I ordered some goods from a certain saucy lingerie shop and paid a fairly sizeable amount for next working day delivery. I didn't really expect the parcel to be delivered yesterday as I only placed the order at 7pm on Tuesday, but I did expect it to be delivered today.

It hasn't been delivered, so I checked my emails to get the tracking number, and saw an email from Royal Mail.

Apparently they 'attempted delivery' but were unable to as 'the address was inaccessible'. This could be due to a number of things, according to their sorry-not-sorry excuses page: health and safety issues, locked communal entrances, bad weather or road closures.

I live in a perfectly normal semi-detached house on a non-closed road. There have been no tornadoes/snow storms/flash floods/hailstones the size of footballs today. I was in when they claimed to have attempted delivery- I can see the drive from my position on the sofa and they definitely did not try to deliver. Unless they tried throwing it from behind the front hedge, I suppose.

Plus, they delivered letters to my 'inaccessible' property just this morning!

Has anyone else had this? Is this fairly common?

I had this recently and called because it was the same for me. I also wanted to know if I could go and collect it.

I was told that they put this reason on when they simply don't have the staff to do parcel deliveries in the area, but that it wasn't anything to worry about. Unfortunately I also couldn't collect it because you can only do that if they've attempted delivery.

So that is probably it!

Shodan · 30/06/2022 22:45

Ah ok.

I guess that could be a possibility. Bit weird though because my usual postman has delivered all kinds of parcels in the post and I assumed it would be the same on this occasion.

Very annoying though. I might contact the shop and pettily ask for a refund for the extra delivery charge I paid 😁

They did this on me once only the reasoning said “I had requested no deliveries that day”.
I decided to make them squirm a bit and asked them for proof as I hadn't requested it at all and was worried someone was interfering with my mail. More excuses were given and eventually I told them it was fine, I’d submit a Subject Access Request.

The backpedaling from then was fabulous. It was eventually admitted they did it because it was a guaranteed delivery, they didn’t have the staff and by making it the customers fault they didn’t have to pay the non delivery fee back to the customer. I knew that of course, but I enjoyed making them sweat.

now had they just said “ sorry, we’re really short staffed” it would have been completely understandable, but it’s the lies isn’t it. This was pre covid I add.

Shodan · 30/06/2022 23:14

Yes exactly, @DeusInAbsentia . It's the lying. Just own up to your crappy service, I say.

Damned annoying because I wanted the contents for (cough) a special night away with DP😆

But it made me laugh 🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyway your user name is someone off love island so you know...glass houses and stones

Sometimes my inner child is very much an outer child. I blame her for making me jump in puddles and poking my teenage son in the leg to demand conversation.

Tis very useful to have someone else to blame on occasion.

Ah, posties are everyday heroes. We’ll miss them when they go on strike.

BorisJohnsonsvomitbucket · 30/06/2022 23:49

Husband is a postal worker. He'd echo @ChiefWiggumsBoy . They scan the item when it arrives in the delivery office (then you get a text/email saying to expect delivery) but if there are staff shortages (which inevitably happen) it doesn't get delivered and the postal worker then has to give a reason why. To avoid a "failure" (which causes ire from the big bosses, OFCOM and the rest of the team which gets a bonus dependent on no failures) the postal worker has to be creative and puts down "inaccessible". Your property is not inaccessible.

Also, if RM give you nonsense about Covid being a reason this is nonsense too. Staff shortages are down to cutting staffing to the bare minimum so cover can't be sought. It has nothing to do with Covid, nor accessibility, nor anything else. Just RM being cheap, that's all.

Shodan · 30/06/2022 23:53

I love my postie and I can guarantee if it had been down to him he'd have delivered that parcel come hell or high water. Absolutely no blame being thrown his way.

Juts the large, greedy company that is Royal Mail.

Exactly why the RM should never have been privatised!

Bluevelvetsofa · 01/07/2022 08:45

I’ve twice put in a complaint to RM recently and twice it’s been totally ignored. Last week, I had a card delivered, that was torn almost right through the middle and had been put in a plastic bag. There was the usual ‘sorry’ sticker on it, but this one was a special card by n artist and it’s ruined.

RM gave me a delivery date for a package and I amended it to a different (later) date. Which, of course, was ignored. Why bother telling you that you can rearrange delivery, if you actually can’t.

Our supposedly regular postie is lovely, but he’s not really that regular and I’m sick of the excuses about the pandemic, from them and every other organisation that continues to use them.

Could have been a really angry person at the other end of the road

I ordered some stuff from The Works 2 weeks ago.
Had an email from The Works asking if I was pleased with my purchase 2 days ago.
I don't know as I haven't received it yet.....
