A mole on my arm looks weird

Just wondering if this looks normal, I have a mole on my elbow and it was slightly itchy yesterday, I had a look assuming I'd been bitten by something but it was my mole, that's when I noticed the colour has sort of 'leaked" around the bump part.

It hasn't been itchy at all today but I'm just slightly concerned about the appearance, I'm only reluctant to see the Dr as I'm not sure if it's always looked like this, I have loads of moles so haven't taken particular notice of any, especially in hard to see areas like my elbow.

I just feel a bit silly if it's always looked like this and I'm wasting their time.

Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense, to be honest I'm struggling a bit with depression and anxiety (medicated just normal struggles) and just finding it hard to decide whether or not I should bother having it looked at! Thanks.

It's never a waste of time, changes like this should always be checked out, even if most of the time it's nothing to worry about. So, don't worry but do see your GP!

If you’re worried about a mole, you should get it checked. That’s always the best course of action.

Jott · 30/06/2022 20:18

Go and get it checked.

It's bothered you enough for you to post about it therefore it's bothersome enough to go and get checked.

Best case scenario, it's nothing and you get that reassurance. Worst case scenario, it's something but if that is the case then the sooner you act the better. I dragged my feet over seeing my GP about a lump and was told on here "imagine it's a year from now and that lump turned out to be the worst case scenario but it's too late to do anything about it, wouldn't you wish you'd gotten it checked?"

sure it’s ok but go and see your gp or even boots/Lloyds with their mole checker for a quicker check

Shouldbedoing · 30/06/2022 20:19

If in doubt, check it out. The doc will be ok you did, you won't relax till it's seen

toastfiend · 30/06/2022 20:23

I'd be getting it checked. Chances are it's fine, but always best to be sure, especially if it's changed in appearance.

I had a mole on my leg that appeared very quickly and looked vastly different to my other moles. I saw a dermatologist who removed and biopsied it, it was totally fine in the end, but he was very clear that if I noticed any changes/any moles that looked very different to my existing moles then I should always get them checked.

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2022 20:23

I had a strange one pop up on my arm about a year ago, it was a mole but scabbed over. Sent photos to the gp who was happy to see me, took one look at it, said it was fine and sent me away. It now looks strange and I can’t be arsed going back because I’ll just be told it’s fine still! If you’re worried, go and get it checked.

Thank you everyone, especially for all being so lovely about it and not making me feel like an idiot! I had no idea boots looked at things like this either so that's helpful too, I'll get it looked it.

You’re absolutely doing the right thing. Hopefully you can get seen soon and have your mind set at rest.

I contacted my GP online and sent over photos, they phoned straight back and they are seeing me in person on Tuesday. Thanks everyone for pushing me.

That’s brilliant news. Don’t be alarmed if they want to send you to dermatology. It’s really common for moles to be referred on but much, much, much less common for them to anything to worry about.

Hopefully you’ll get some answers quickly and it doesn’t play on your mind too much.

Notanotherwindow · 01/07/2022 20:12

That needs looking at sharpish. Could be nothing but they will likely do a biopsy just to be sure. Changes to moles or skin lesions always need looking at immediately.

I have one almost identical, had it for as long as I can remember and have had it checked etc. What did they say about yours in the end I think its a combined junctional and compound nevus.

OP here with a name change! It was absolutely fine, the dr took a photo with a special thing and said it was nothing to worry about, looks exactly the same now.
