No idea what category to put this in so I apologise
My then boyfriend messaged me, twice, a couple of months ago (I've kept messages... was Whatsapp) telling me I should kill myself. He was drunk and I ended our on/off toxic relationship there and then.
Was this a hate crime? Is incite to suicide legal? Is it only illegal if someone commits or tries to , suicide? ( I didn't try to but was very , very shaken...it was his typical hot/cold behaviour...five minutes before he'd been sending me loved up videos..)
Should I have reported to non emergency police, for eg?

It's illegal to goad somebody into suicide when they are threatening to harm themselves. I do not know if any laws were broken in the scenario you describe.

There was a tragic case several years ago whereby somebody was on top of a multi-storey car park contemplating jumping. A small number of people on the ground were chanting "jump, jump, jump" and the person, sadly, did exactly that. Charges were brought to at least one of those chanters but I can't remember specific details.

Either way you're well rid of this idiot. I hope he never says anything like that to anyone again and I'm glad you were strong enough to seemingly withstand that abuse.
