Aargh DP on holiday!

It’s beautiful here. On child free holiday with DP. All I hear is about his mosquito bites, it’s too hot, he’s swathed in mosquito repellent, fly
spray, and moaning about the heat. It’s not unexpected. I just want to relax and enjoy the loveliness without a backdrop of moaning and chemicals 🤣 It’s like I'm
his mum. Just venting before I cause a row

Well you say it wasn’t unexpected… Did he want to go there? If you’re not suited to the heat it’s horrible.

I hate heat too but I wouldn’t go somewhere hot in the summer months so if he agreed to he needs to suck it up.

Not a beach holiday. No lying in the sun. He won’t try the language either.

guess it’s me who’s being unreasonable but it’s clear we are just not compatible. Wake up call

The moaning is bad enough, but not even trying some of the local language is disrespectful. As you say, a wake up call.

He absolutely shouldn’t be pissing all over your holiday. But I get heat rash and burn easily, if it’s too hot I can’t sleep well, it’s miserable. So I avoid very hot places like the plague. He shouldn’t have agreed to go but maybe it’s hotter than he expected and he’s legit uncomfortable and stressed.

I thought you meant it wasn’t unexpected he was miserable, my mistake.

So he didn't want you to have a good time without him, but is now making it all about him.

Just venting before I cause a row It's tempting to say do it anyway. How far into the holiday are you? But if that's too radical, tell him that tomorrow you're going off to do your own thing and what he does is up to him. Do not let him impose himself and his moaning on you, stick to your guns.

@AnneLovesGilbert I’m very fair and burn, he tans and has been on many beach holidays. I don’t do them as I burn.

i also always attempt the language

Ahhh I had this. I booked a holiday when seeing someone but I wanted to go alone. To read, sleep in, do whatever I wanted to do. New bloke tagged along, ruined my holiday and I broke up with him on the flight home 😬

What do you mean "he won't try the language"? If he knows 2 words from a guidebook and wouldn't understand any replies, why would he bother? Why would anyone bother?

Ok. So we had outrage about mosquitoes. The heat, the uncomfortable sun beds, the flies. Then there was his sore back. Everything being in a foreign language. Can’t eat lunch as well as dinner. Too hot to walk or to relax at the accommodation.

This wasn’t fun. A week away in a resort. Doesn’t bode well for retirement at the end of the year. Time to follow your example @ZoChan

like overwhelmingly percentage of the British population on holiday.

i speak Spanish and locals always aghast because so used to being shouted at in English and then surprise that they don’t speak English

Why would he, or anyone, bother learning Spanish to the level you can have a conversation with someone, just so they can go on holiday? What do you think Danes and Hungarians speak in Spain? Congratulations for knowing Spanish but that's no reason to look down on people who don't.

I don’t mean conversational level, but it’s not that hard to learn some words to order food, or work out what’s in the shops! Or to snap at me cos he can’t understand the card machine

But perhaps he is just disinterested in learning another language. Fair enough.

i doubt there was a huge call for knowing the other language
