Recurring dream…

Thehouseofmanyrooms · 29/06/2022 20:20

For many years now I’ve dreamt the same sort of dream regularly.

We’ve bought a new house, I’m always really thrilled with it and over the course of time I find new rooms within it. Often the rooms are totally unexpected, I open what I think is an airing cupboard and there’s a whole new part of the house I didn’t know we had.

Often the rooms still have the belongings of the last person to live there, cabinets full of beautiful things, pictures, furniture and I’m always delighted to find these rooms and things.

I’ve read its something to do with unexplored parts of my subconscious, I love it when I feel these dreams taking that direction and they often stay with me for many hours or days.

Anyone else get recurring dreams?

Omg! I used to have a really similar dream where I was exploring a big house and the rooms went on and on... not had it for ages though...

Itsonlyabiscuit · 29/06/2022 20:45

I have dreams like that. Its a house with all these interesting nooks and crannies.

I also have dreams where i go back to my old school as an adult and it feels so novel and exciting. The most exciting thing is always that I'm going to have an extra GCSE or A-levek to put on my CV (sad thing to get excited over, but there you go!).

I think it all represents untapped potential and some kind of creative/intellectual force waiting to be unleashed.

Mine is still waiting.

PuffyMcPuffFace · 29/06/2022 20:46

Mine is similar but the house in my dream belongs to my parents and several of the rooms are haunted

ItoldyouIwastrouble · 29/06/2022 20:52

I get a dream a bit like that, I'm trying to decide which rooms to use for what, playroom, office, bedrooms etc. I think its me trying to balance my life and time! I get haunted rooms too @PuffyMcPuffFace , which I'm scared of and avoid! I've wondered if its me ignoring the spiritual side of myself.

I've often had that dream. In fact I only had it the other night. Also when I first moved into this house 10 years ago I often had dreams of my old house. I'd be back there, but the new people lived there and we'd be secretly staying or something. Over time this has become less and less.

Other recurring dreams is needing the toilet and not being able to find a free one. Or the only one I could find wouldn't have a door so I'd be in full view of everyone.

Also being late is another recurring dream. Not like 5 or 10 mins, but hours late. I'd be on the way to work and even though I start at 9 it would be noon or later and I'd still be on my way to work.

I’ve just remembered another! I’m trying to phone someone and every time I dial I get a few digits wrong and have to start again.

Over and over again, and I’m desperate for the call to connect.

The best by far though is when my mum who died 7 years ago comes.

I was stood in my dream, felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around and there she was smiling - I had the best hug. Woke up crying 😭

I wish someone would come along and tell us what these dreams mean. I didn't realise many people had the same dreams. The toilet one with no door, or a huge uncovered window is a regular (anxiety?) dream of mine. The house with extra rooms, not for a long time, but I do like that dream.
Op, the one with your mum sounds lovely.

Nospringchickendipper · 30/06/2022 17:05

I have recurring dreams about finding rooms in a house that I didn’t know existed or finding a house I didn’t know I owned.
They usually all need work doing to them.
Says a lot about the state of my mind 😀

Nospringchickendipper · 30/06/2022 17:08

I’ve remembered another dream I have and it’s about sitting exams that I haven’t revised for.In the dream I don’t usually turn up for it.
Im usually glad I wake up from this dream as it seems to really upset me.

GinUnicorn · 30/06/2022 17:13

Weird one about being in a hotel and looking for my room or exploring in some kind of variation.

Cranefliesthinkthecarroofiswater · 30/06/2022 17:19

I call those 'house dreams' and used to have them all time in my 40s. Still have them now sometimes. There are always unexpected rooms to explore, often full of old furnishings, some of it really lovely and there was a magnificent fireplace in one that I would just love.

To me, they signal that I have more to explore in life, that there are unexplored areas that could be really interesting, if only I go and find them.

I'd like to know what others think about their house dreams.

OMG, I frequently have this exact dream. In it, I am getting more and more panicked that I can’t get the right number. It’s like my fingers don’t work properly to get the right digits. Always seems to be in a red phone box.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 30/06/2022 19:28

Strangely @Thehouseofmanyrooms one of my recurring dreams is almost exactly the same as yours, finding extra rooms, but mine are really sinister, because although il
pleased with the extra space, I know there’s something really horrible and distressing in one of them ☹️ but I have to keep opening the doors and looking, while feeling terrified. It’s a horrible, frightening dream for me and I’m always delighted to wake up!

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 30/06/2022 19:32

And have just read the rest of the thread and I’m amazed at how similar a lot of my dreams are to others!!

Another recurring one is that I’m with my ex husband in my house and he’s been here a few days and is now under the impression we’re going to be giving our marriage another chance and I have to tell him all over again that I’m leaving him…horrible!
