Ear piercing - one side or both??

My ear lobe piercings that I had since a child have closed up and after years of not being fussed I am going to get them re-pierced but also want to get more/ the cartilage , is it standard to get this done on just the one side or both?

I have a mix of both... left ear I have 6 running from the standard lobe then all evenly spaced. On the right I have 3 at the bottom and 2 cartilage ones at the top.

I’ve got helix piercings in one ear. My lobes piercings I’ve got uneven numbers, 2 in one and 3 in the other. I wouldn’t get helix piercings in the same place in both my ears, I’d have something different in the other ear.

I have 2 lobe piercings on both ears and then multiple other ear piercings that I just have one of on one ear. Any piercing that isn’t lobe is charged per piercing and not a pair, my single ones cost £25/£35.

Left Ear: Lobe, Tragus, Forward Helix (beware that one takes forever to heal. I nearly gave up with it, but glad I persevered as zero bother now)

Right Ear: Lobe, Conch, Flat (top of ear).

All dainty, discreet jewellery. I think an uneven number of piercings in ears are best, mine happen to be even right now.

Are they definitely re-sealed? I thought my lobe piercings had closed up, and went to get them re-pierced at the end of last year, after deciding I'd quite like to wear earrings again. It turned out they hadn't sealed and just needed stretching, and I could have saved myself some money by just using a stretcher myself. It might be worth trying that first, then having the cartilage done as well, if that's what you want.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 30/06/2022 00:22

I would recommend you don't get too many at once and all on one side for cartilage. Otherwise it can be extremely uncomfortable to sleep. You're ok for lobes as they're softer - but be warned, getting them done with a needle actually hurts more than with a gun!

I have recently had a daith and a forward helix on one side and will be going back for some others on the other side soon - I can recommend a good place in Liverpool if that's local to you.

Interesting you say this - I recently had my forward helix done and it's healed beautifully already, no bother at all. I did however have the helix done at the top of my ear - twice - and it NEVER healed! I think maybe because my hair kept irritating it? Regardless, so weird that a piercing an inch away can heal so differently!

My peircer said forward helixs are notoriously hard to heal generally, so you've been so lucky there!

OP, you may know this already, but please do not go to any peircer using a gun. Its highly unprofessional and can cause tissue damage through blunt force trauma. A pro peircer, with a needle, the type you'd find in a tattoo artist studio is the way to go.

siriusblackcat · 30/06/2022 07:50

In my left ear I've got 3 lobe piercings and my daith.
Right ear has 3 lobes, a tragus and a helix. The helix was a bugger to heal but one of my favourites now it has.

SlingsbyKindaDay · 30/06/2022 09:56

Always make sure you're pierced with a needle. It defiantly shouldn't hurt more.

Ukholidaylover · 30/06/2022 13:48

@SlingsbyKindaDay Why did you suggest Maria Tash... I now want lots more piercings and all the jewellery!! New obsession 🤣

SlingsbyKindaDay · 30/06/2022 13:51

@Ukholidaylover I know...The obsession is real. I'm lucky that my best friend works there so I get a discount but still 🥵

Ukholidaylover · 30/06/2022 13:54

@SlingsbyKindaDay What a best friend!!! Very jealous. Every photo on Instagram is just gorgeous... ears of dreams haha.

SlingsbyKindaDay · 30/06/2022 13:54
