Trying to change shopping habits and buy more food from Aldi. Can people recommend nice food to buy here please?

Just buy the sort of thing you'd buy in which ever supermarket you normally shop at.

Skinnermarink · 29/06/2022 17:04

There are zillions of threads on this. Our Aldi has actually gone up anyway as Tesco price match it.

Summerwhereareyou · 29/06/2022 18:09

Pasta source's, large jar 59 p. My DC love it.
Luxury yoghurt 1m79.
Ready made rice ( handy for take aways 35p), beef Tom 60p, breakfast hoops 85p

FlickyCrumble · 29/06/2022 18:13

If it’s the same as Lidl then pesto, pasta sauce, pasta, rice, fresh beats, veg, fruit, bakery stuff, crisps, yogurt, cheese is very cheap, own brands alcohol, viakal, peanuts, any nuts and dried fruit, butter, flour.

sorry just ran through what I know is cheaper than Morrisons when I pop into Lidl.

OldEvilOwl · 29/06/2022 18:45

I don't like the ketchup, pasta sauces etc as they are too sweet. The bread, cheese, pretty much everything else is good though

waterlego · 29/06/2022 18:50

I just buy my regular shop of the foods I’d buy anywhere (meat, fish, fruit and veg, bread etc), and I can’t say I’ve come across any absolute must-buys. The quality is as good as anywhere else but at a cheaper price, which is why I mostly shop there.

However, I really like the Lacura skin care products, especially the hot cloth cleanser and the toner. They are bargains so I would recommend those if they are the kind of products you’d buy anyway.

Eatthecake80 · 29/06/2022 18:54

Aldi isn’t that cheap anymore unfortunately, apart from the veg/fruit deal of the week.

Vetiver · 29/06/2022 19:03

I love their jam, especially the damson one…they also do a delicious jalapeño chilli jam, yum.
I find the knock off cereal bars and go ahead bars really good and the ice creams/lollies (I like the ‘magnums’)
Really handy for cleaning stuff and toiletries, wasn’t impressed with the loo roll or kitchen towel though.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 29/06/2022 22:16

I hardly shop there now as a lot of their stuff is price matched at Tesco.

My local Aldi only sells bagged fresh fruit and veg. It doesn't last as long so it's often gone over before we get to eat it all.
To be fair , there are only two of us.

Their range of herbs and spices is poor and I usually have to go elsewhere for household items like bin liners, tin foil and the like as they've often sold out or not re stocked.

Quirrelsotherface · 29/06/2022 22:17

Cheese, salmon, mochi ice cream (coconut is lush), protein puddings and chocolate porridge pots, fresh juices and cereals for the kids, tubs of rocky road (the best I've ever tasted), Toro loco wine, hash browns and steamed veg bags from the freezer

yoshiblue · 30/06/2022 09:38

Household stuff e.g. cling film, foil, bin liners, toilet roll
Microwave rice, straight to wok noodles
Tinned tomatoes, beans, pulses (but you won't save very much)
Trifles - raspberry / chocolate - 3 for 99p
Children's lunch box food - crisps, small choc bars, juices
I personally find their fruit and veg a bit hit and miss, it's fine if you're using it quickly. Fruit I'd rather buy from Sainsburys as it's much better quality.
Generally good for continental cheeses, salamis, meats - but I wouldn't buy the cheaper stuff.
Children's cones/ice lollies for the freezer.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/06/2022 09:40

I do all my shopping at Aldi, I am really disappointed when I go to Tesco for any reason. Aldi is fab.

emmathedilemma · 30/06/2022 10:30

I think the fruit and veg thing maybe depends where you live as round here the Aldi stuff is often much better than Sainsburys!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/06/2022 13:48

I love their Greek yogurt with honey
Really cheap and one of the best
Torchon ham
Cinnamon buns!
They pretty much sell their own version of lots of supermarket things( in very similar packaging)

StrangeCondition · 30/06/2022 13:51

The F&V at our local Aldi is shockingly bad and I don't like how you can't buy individual things like carrots, parsnips etc. Everything else is much of a muchness but I find I can't do a full shop there so end up elsewhere to get other things I need

Glitterspy · 30/06/2022 13:53

Spicy avocado smash in the chilled aisle
Specially selected anything - it's all good quality and value
Hotel collection candles
Vitacat wet pet food (if you have a moggy)

ZeroFuchsGiven · 30/06/2022 13:55

Specially selected west country salted butter with sea salt crystals!

PaperTyger · 30/06/2022 14:01

The goats cheese is also delicious and a large tube, Serrano ham delicious, and their lunch box bars.

snowsea · 30/06/2022 14:06

Sushi is cheap there

Favouritefruits · 30/06/2022 14:24

Aldi’s own Pringles, the fake Mars bars and the cola zero. The dishwasher tablets seem to be as good as finish.

Happyinheels · 30/06/2022 14:35

Black pepper crackers
Gammon crinkled crisps
Oak smoked salmon fillets
Cheeses
Continental meats
Fresh juice
Salt and pepper chips
Beef dripping chips
Ice lollies
Seeded Bread
Basa fillets

I won't buy their sausages, burgers, mince or stewing beef. But their steaks are fabulous.

Toilet rolls - but only the aloe Vera or smelly ones, not because of the smell but they're the best thickness wise.
The dishwasher tablets are Good Housekeeping approved. And their shower spray cleaner is fantastic.

BlueSuffragette · 30/06/2022 15:47

Tomato and olive stir through pasta sauce, small jar, next to the pesto, which is also good.

TwoMonthsOff · 14/07/2022 18:49

I bought some cocoa butter body lotion 95p today as had run out, it’s lovely - smells and feels exactly like the Dove Rituals one.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 14/07/2022 19:05

I used to be a really brand loyal when it came to toiletries but their knock off herbal Essences, shower gels, face wipes, deodorant and moisturiser are all great. I don't buy many ready made things but find their fruit and veg great as is both their fresh and frozen fish.
I also buy their version of Philadelphia light, ham, things like pasta and rice, flour, Shreddies breakfast cereal, natural yoghurt, salt and pepper, crackers and seeded thins. Sparkling and flavoured waters, and treat wise, fake Pepsi max is really good, so are the white chocolate buttons and specially selected prawn cocktail crisps!

TwoMonthsOff · 14/07/2022 19:25

they have the Assyrtiko Santorini wine back in stock £6.99 it’s lovely
We have a fairly new large store here I really like it

and the Burland Bloom English Brie is wonderful
