Just found out that the holiday club DD goes to won't take him because they don't have space for him to have a room to retreat to, even though we found a 1:1. They are the only club that takes children with SEN apart from the PMLD club which would be totally unsuitable. The LEA offers free places for those with EHCPs but they are useless if the club won't take your child.
He's just moved to a new SEMH school and currently gets home at 1.30. Even when he's going for a full day he won't leave the house till after 9 and will get home well before 3. No after school club will take him either and there are no childminders left in our area (the one he used to go to has given up childminding and gone back to work). Specialist schools are exempt from the new directive about schools offering a full week - his only opens 9.30 to 2.30 (we live quite close). Currently he's coming home at 11 on a Friday because they usually take the children to activities on a Friday afternoon and he isn't up to that yet.
Surely it's a complete waste of the taxes I should be paying (but can't because I can't work in the afternoons) not to provide out of hours care? I thought the government was pushing all schools and LEAs to offer wraparound care?
We actually have some activities he can do over the summer (e.g. 1:1 swimming) unlike last year, but of course we have to go with him so can't even use that time to work.
Yet again parents of children with SEN are supposed to sit in a box until their child comes home from school and then be available 24/7.
