Anyone done this and how easy is it to do?

Did it in a previous house. Took about half a day & was straight forward.

Makes a huge difference to getting in & out of the loft.

Make sure you do it in such a way that you can install a drop down ladder.

It depends on the roof/loft construction but usually involves cutting a ceiling tie which holds the ceiling up and also stops the foot of the rafters from spreading so needs framing properly.
Not difficult if youre fairly handy

Ok thank. We are thinking of getting the loft boarded, extending the hatch and getting a pull down ladder in. If it's easy to get into it then we will actually use it for storage.

Don't forget to make sure head height above the hatch is sufficient. Nothing worse than climbing up into the loft and cracking your head.

Our hatch was in the bathroom when we moved in which wasn't practical at all. Guess its as more for where the immersion tank was located. I moved it to along the landing so I could make it wider and longer.

it's not difficult.
