My partner and I are middle aged, and want somewhere quiet this is very important, preferably warm (I live in Scotalnd!!), e.g. warm enough in the day time to be in sleeveless shirt scandals etc (but not boiling hot), nice boutique hotel with excellent service, a terrace/balcony to sit on read, chill and an watch the world go quietly by, preferably by a beach/lake, lovely views but with some things do if we fancy a change of scenery, we're interested in art, architecture, music (opera), gardens etc. I have to have a gluten free diet so Italy is the top recommendation for this next maybe Greece. I know parts of Italy well and love it but not the coastal regions, don't know Greece at all. I also love France and know it well and the quieter parts of Portugal but contrary to popular views from experience I am not mad keen on Croatia. We're not looking for or expecting to find a bargain basement priced holiday.
