How do you switch off from work when on rest days or leave?

Suffering work anxiety & struggle to switch off when away from work.
I go over & question things I've done or said & generally worry about everything.

I'm due to go in holiday next week for a fortnight & really need to switch off.

Any tips!!?!!

I find that when you get physically away, it's easier to get mentally away. Doesn't have to be abroad but it helps!

Have stuff to do. I am the same and only being really busy takes my mind off the fact I don’t want to go back.

Couple of ideas

  1. In the days before your go write a list of the work things you need to sort before you go and do them or hand them over properly. Tick them off as done so when you finish you can say to yourself than you did the main things that needed doing.
  2. Remember that good enough is good enough - perfection is impossible and unnecessary
  3. Think about when your colleagues go on holiday - do they get everything perfect before they go? Are you setting higher standards for yourself than you do for others?
  4. Trust your colleagues to be competent enough to sort things out if a problem arises.
  5. Recognise that trying to sort stuff remotely is usually frustrating and unhelpful so don't try to step in to work stuff when you are away.
  6. If you are away and something is worrying you - write it down to get it out of your head and ask yourself honestly if it something that you can do anything about. If you can't fix it or change it then agree with yourself you will deal with it when you get back if it is still an issue by then.
  7. Give yourself permission to switch off - no organisation has ever stopped functioning because one employee had a couple of weeks off.
  8. Value yourself and your free time. You are so much more than your job so don't define yourself by your work.
  9. Distract yourself with activities, books, music etc. Do things you enjoy.
