Lost Passport - have you ever applied for a lost passport

Hi there, had a call with the passport office to help my mum who lost her passport.
We got a PEX reference.
We were told that a Lost Passport reference would not include PEX.
Is this correct? does anyone have any experience with applying for a replacement LOST passport from the UK and have been given a reference that is not PEX?
Just checking that what I am being told is accurate.
Thanks!
LD

You need the lost passport reference which they rang us with then you need to make an application for a passport that has been lost quoting the lost reference number.

@arnoldbee thanks. Just trying to confirm, does it start with a "pex" or not

No, it starts with L.

When I reported my DD's as lost, I was phoned a few days later and asked some questions. They gave me the L reference number...but didn't tell me to link it to her new application! I'd already applied by that time as I had no idea to expect a call and a reference number Blush.

I've had to call this week to link them.

@ArnoldBee @DrFoxtrot sorry one more question.
I also want to confirm - do you have to provide

  • your original birth certificate

  • the original of your drivers license

  • and a sworn statement from someone who knows you for 3 years

This is for a lost passport?
(Also, have the same questions for if the passport is expired)

Yes we did need to provide a birth cert and someone to verify her I'd but this was a child's passport.

ArnoldBee · 26/06/2022 08:28

Ps it was lost and expired. It had been thrown away as it was expired but we had to go down the lost passport route.

So far we've not been asked for any additional documents. It's a lost child passport, I'm not sure of there's any difference between adults and children. We had to get someone to verify a photo/ identity and I hope nothing else is needed. But who knows!

I'm currently waiting on a lost renewal, just had to give the lost reference which began with L, when they called with the reference they said they would add it to his application for me. Only had to verify his identity which was done the day after applying by my husbands friend. Unfortunately we are still waiting on said passport now after applying almost 2 months ago! Apparently it's been with an examiner since May 6th and no movement since that date!

RoseAndRose · 27/06/2022 07:58

I didn't think they asked for driving licences, as not everybody has one.

PEX is sat the start of a passport application
You can report lost passports online and apply online for a new passport too
